235 & glide in a 37 Chevy??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by mr57, Dec 31, 2011.

  1. I was wondering how much of a hassle it would be to drop in a 59 235 and glide into a 37?? I can get a real nice sedan for reasonable and have a good running 235. I also have a couple good rear ends- 56 Chevy, 12 bolt, S-10. Just looking to keep the rest stock....

Shouldn't be hard at all. Look at Chassis Engineering for mounts and cross members.

  3. I am going form memory, but you can use the 37 style water pump and front cover that makes it drop in using the orig 216 engine mounts. The 235 is just alter version of the 216. There is a lot of info out there on swapping later full pressure oiling 235 into the older cars.

Why not? Here is a 235 with a Power Glide in an old Chevy coupe. It handles like a dream and went right in. I now has an open drive line too. The '37 actually has more space available.

Find the adapter to put the 37 to 54 style water pump on the 55 to 62 motor before doing anything, the shortened pumps that mount in the original 55 to 62 location sometimes make it hard to use a stock fan. Two holes need to be drilled in the block before the motor goes in for the adapter,I drilled them with the motor in but the front clip off. I bought my adapter from the maker who is pre68dave on the stovebolt page but I think Jim Carter and other vendors sell them too.
