I know, another question. Well here it is. On the way back from a long trip on the I-5, I got stuck in stop and go traffic, when my car started sputtering and popin, and started spitting black smoke. I got it off the freeway, parked it and she died. The whole time I was stuck in traffic, I had to keep it g***ed or it was gonna stall out. I couldn't get the car fired back up untill I took off the air cleaner, bumped the idle way up and tightened up the fuel mixture screw. I had been driving for about 2-3 hours nonstop and part of that was uphill. I have no idea how fast I was going for that time, but I usually have it damn near floored. I know I included alot of info but figured it would be easier for someone to diagnose if I did. Anybody have any ideas on what would have caused this? I don't really have the money to swap the 6 and don't want to buy a different car so I can get home on the weekends. Oh, It's got a 3 speed manual if that helps. Thanks, Mike
well i dont know what the problem would be but if you get to where you need another motor i got a 216 that ran good till pulled around last fathers day if you need it pm me and im sure you could afford this one its just a matter of getting it to you tatts
My thinking is the carborator float stuck or trash got under needle valve causing an over rich carb.Take apart and clean and carb kit, good inline filter, should fix it.
it does sound float related. rebuild the rochester the kits 10 bucks and change the oil. chances are u gas washed it. i blew up my old 235 from a sticky float. well preety much welded my mains to my cranks with 30lbs of oil pressure up untill the last second good luck, let us know what you get figured out
sounds like dirt in the float valve . I ran the old gl*** bowl style fuel filter on mine Just another idea here; ... I had to install a fuel pressure regulator on my 235 when the carbs would flood out a couple times a week. Cleaned up the running of the ol 235. I did have a rumpty camshaft in it too
thanks guys, I'm stuck in south carolina untill sat, I'll check out my carb when I get back. I have been thinking about going to a two barrel, maybe this is a good excuse, mike
