ok, the ole 235 in the Chevy is not runnin too swell. my thoughts are it is either the timing or the carb. once your going down the road at a decent clip it seems to run fine but at low speeds it stumbles. you have to feather the gas when you take off or it will just bog out and stall. what do you suspect the problem is??? and what can i do about it (if anything) before i leave for BilletProof in the morning???

    thanks...

Is the vaccum advance working? the dist housing should turn when you give it gas if it is working. also check the accelerator pump link on the outside of the carb to make sure the clip did'nt come off. or the accerlrator pump may be bad if the car was sitting a long time.

if you are runing the original carb, I had similar probs in mine, and it turned out to be the leather pump boot in the carb that squirts out the gas, (plunger, whatever you call it). I would push the pedal to the floor, and the motor would just bog, and I had hesitation in the pedal at the begining of acceleration. Luckily my dad had another carb on the shelf, and we replaced my leather boot/plunger...works like a dream now. My old one was all gunky and craked which didn't provide a tight seal.

Not sure if this will help you, but we went thru the same thing, checking vacume etc. and it turned out to be this simple part..haha..good luck man!

Accelerator pump in the carb or the advance on the distributor is not working, put vaccuem to the dist and see it it moves.

i know the vacuum advance works, i was watching the distributer turn as i gave it some gas. i suspected it may be the accelerator pump. the car has sat for MANY years since it was last on the road.

    thanks all...
