Hey Guys Happy Shark Week! Hey I got that 235 installed in the '54 Chevy Sedan basket case that was delivered to my shop. After a LOT of Bad Words- Some I didn't even know the meaning to- it's all ****oned up. I figured out the clutch linkage but there is a small rod for the throttle linkage that goes between the firewall bellcrank & the bell crank on the engine. I see I need a bushing to take up a lot of the hole in the firewall bell crank but on the other end of the rod is an adjustable block with a *** that should poke thru the hole on the engine bell crank. But the *** has no hole for a cotter pin & so short I am unable to drill a hole for one. I guess that I need a clip of some type. When I call the vendors I don't know what to ask for. What am I looking for & what's it called? Some vendors are, well, not very "Helpful" if you don't know xactly what you're looking for! Thanks!
You need one of these. They make them in 1/8”, 3/16”, and 1/4” depending on the diameter of the rod. Right and lefts… the big ones are the same the little ones are a right and left. The bell crank on the block pin can be put on in either direction. It can be rotated 360*; you keep trying different ways until the foot feed is smooth then attach the vertical rod until it pushes up when the foot pedal is depressed. . .
Here is a truck thread Might help https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/235-truck-throttle-rods-and-lever-question.1189596/
This is what you need - I've only found them on '53-4 PG cars & '54 hydro pickups .... View attachment 5465130 The adjustment end goes on the carb ...
OK Great! I see how these clips work - I was expecting something more exotic around that square block! I'm sure I have some them clips- just gotta find them! I'm gonna get on my lathe & turn me out a bushing for the firewall bellcrank. Time to turn this job into a paycheck! Thanks! Andy
