Event Coverage 23rd ANNUAL GUNNISON COLORADO CAR SHOW

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fivewindow Johnnie, Feb 18, 2010.

  1. That would be seriously cool. If you're comin', PM me your cell # and we'll connect.

    Johnnie.

  2. Picked up Axle at the airport, he's tucked nicely into bed for some rest. Just heard from the Rev-Tones, they are in Green River Utah, just about 4 hours away. It is coming together nicely. Looks like we're gonna have a car show....................

    Johnnie.

  3. I'm walking out the door. A great day beginning.

Absolutely the BEST show of the summer! Great location and even better people! It was nice to escape the 100 degree heat of the flatlands that we just returned to.

Unfortunately, didn't do a very good job of photography. Here are a few:

Collection of Lonely Knights cars and some invited guests. HAMB member Dan Hansen's fantastic Caddy is only rivaled by the beautiful Gunnison scenery.

Johnnie (FiveWindowJohnnie) Walker's duece. The crowd directly behind is looking over Dave Crouse's (Custom Auto) deuce roadster. Both attracted a lot of attention.

Guess what made it to Gunnison? Yes, the 30 day thrash to completion had a happy ending... :D:D

The show was good and the people better! 12:30 was the HAMB meet and greet. Alex (Axle on the HAMB) of the acted as DJ spinning tunes. I had a chance to talk to him prior to the show. Great guy with some very valid input on the continued build on the Model A.

I also met MadCad, WFO Guy, RodGuyinCO and a number of other HAMBers. Great to put faces with user names. Better yet to find some guys with common interests and diverse knowledge.

Spent a bit of time hanging with the Lonely Knights out of Colorado Springs. This is a first class bunch of folks with some of the nicest traditional cars in the state. They have adopted the show as one of their own and consider FiveWindow Johnnie's house their "Western Clubhouse".

This leads into one the BEST parts of the whole weekend: Johnnie and Laura Walker's post show party at their beautiful home. My wife and I were invited to hang with Johnnie, the Knights, and a number of other HAMBers. Here are a couple of shots:

Johnnie and Laura's yard. This is a car show of its own right.

The RevTones playing in Johnnie's garage. Marcus (HAMB M.Edell) is one hell of a drummer. Best Wipe Out rendition I think that I have ever heard. Carry them around on my I-Pod. Highly recommend that you check out their latest album. We heard a lot of discussion about grilled cheese. Buy the album if you want to know the significance...

The FAMOUS Walker Party Pinata! It took multiple wacks with a stout rod to dislodge the contents. The payload was rife with adult novelties and aphrodisiacs! Kept the night interesting after the party...

Trying to not play that up too much after the crap I caught at party afterward. However, the King Pin resides prominently on the fireplace mantle.
Good to meet you! Really like the work you are doing on your car. Especially the steering wheel. Also wondered if the dash came from a Turnpike Cruiser?

  12. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ATTENDED ! ! ! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Just wanted to say thanks to everybody who took the time to attend the Gunnison Car Show. Thanks also to those who came to the house for a little fun at the end of a long day. Got to meet some great new friends and spend a little time with the best kind of old friends.

We are truly blessed with some great friends and club brothers. I couldn't be luckier than to be a Lonely Knight ! Speaking of which, we have new Lonely Knights, congratulations to Tom & Michelle Meyers ! The club is better with you two around.

With the economy being what it is, the expense of this years party was a bit of a strain. But after some discussion, Laura and I decided the tradition had to go on, the cost would work itself out somehow, and the club needed this time for R&R and a little bonding.

Unbeknownest to us, the boys passed the hat and handed me a wad that covered over a fourth of the gatherings cost. Tom & Michelle Meyers went WAY overboard, but that's the kind of friends they are !

Fridays cruise-in was fantastic, as was our party, greatly due to the presence of the REV-TONES ! What a great bunch of people and top shelf entertainers all the way. Anybody needing the best kind of car event band, do not hesitate, I found them right here on the HAMB, and you can too.

Would like to one last favor of attendees, lets see those pictures, and lets hear what you have to say about your Gunnison, High-mountain experience.......please.

    Thanks again, Johnnie.

the dash is a 52-3 merc actually. Fit with little effort. The garnish mouldings had a ton of work though. Combined a few things to get those right. Love your truck as well. You do good work!

  14. I had a great time. I got to visit with serious car people. I found our hosts to be gracious and very capable. I met people who have a sense of humor and the knowledge that it takes to carry on a good conversation. Nobody even made fun of me when I put on a coat.:D

  15. Hey Johnnie, the show was great as always! But as usual the party was the best part of the weekend! Julie and I would like to thank you and Laura for letting us stay at your house. Also, thanks for spoiling Adam, he'll be asking about you all year. Thanks for all your hospitality and we hope to see you guys down for the Paint and Primer show!

    Thanks again!

We had the time of our lives in Gunnison!! A Million Thanks once again Johnnie to you and your lovely wife.Everyone there was so damn good to us.If you need us for next year, we're there!

  17. Marcus,

You, Roxanne & Randy were more than we could hope for.

Excellent show downtown Friday night on Main St., the Rev-Tones flat rocked the place ! Great comments all day Saturday during the Car Show about your show the night before.

Saturday night seemed even better, I think you guys and the party-goers had a vibe back & forth between you that just took it up a level. Or maybe I was drunk ??? Nah, it was the performance.

The Rev-Tones might warrant a repeat performance..............

    Thank you so much, Johnnie.

  19. Had a Fantastic time!! Besides all the cars and a great show, the best time was the after party at your house! Loved the "naughty pinata". It was even better after the great food and beer! You and Laura are the best hosts ever!
It was great to meet some of the guys from the Lonely Knights CC and lots of other HAMBer's. Now I can put a face to some of the names of the guys who harass me on a regular basis.
    Can't wait for next year!!

I was really surprised when you guys voted us in Saturday night. What a day that was. The Lonely Knights are a classy organization with reason to be proud of the membership and their cars. I also feel very lucky to be a new member of the Lonely Knights. Spent a better part of last night on the buffing wheel getting that LK drag plaque ready to hang!

    Thanks for including us!!

We really didn't expect or desire publicity by helping out with the expenses. I made that commitment to you last year knowing the amount of resources such a GREAT party demands. I would have paid that amount in a second for the front row center seats I had to see the RevTones play! Next time you are getting it in anonymous, untraceable Obama bucks...just didn't have time to get to an ATM and raid the eBay account the other day. I will commit the proceeds of a few carburetor rebuilds to the fund again next year. It is the least I can do.

  29. Shannon,

You're very welcome, was great to have up in the high-country for the weekend.

Tom's gonna get a big head if we're not careful. What did he win, like, Three trophies ? And then, was made a full Lonely Knights member to boot that evening. Probably will forget the "little people" like most celebrities do.........he he.

    Mike,

You guys are welcome, come up any time and do some fishin'. Maybe my dumb ass can get a dancing lesson while you are on the water. Adam is neat little man, we like having him around.

Trying to make it to P&P labor day weekend.

    Johnnie.

  30. Tim,

I owe you an apology, it didn't occur to me until Sunday what had happened. Sarah (sp?) and the youngster should have been at the party. The "please leave children at home" thing on the invite is to keep the 30 neighborhood kids out of the yard. It is understood that any car people bring their kids along. Just know that kids might see a "big ass" pinata, or one like we had this year.

I felt bad when it dawned on thick skull what had occured. Make sure everybody is there for some fun next time around.

    Sorry again brother, Johnnie.
