Ive been beating on this damn GB for the past two nights trying to get the colum and brake pedal to work together in the same area...Ive got a good idea to make it work after a good nights sleep. Can I see some T bucket colum pics?

I don't have a picture but on minethe pedal is slightly in front& to the right of the base fro the steering column.
If my pedal ahs too much play it hits the column base & it wouldn't stop!!cool feeling!lol.
there is no room what so ever on the left side of the column& the kickpad.

I have a floor mount brake pedal that I have cut and rewelded several times. It run almost under the colum...Im thinking of cutting the clum back so it just comes out of the firewall a inch or to and then run the rod down to the box...Id like to see some pics before I hack the colum up anymore.....man T's***** for people with long legs [IMG]

You're using a Vega box, right? What about ditching the column (jacket) and just using a bare shaft supported by a heim end type thing ala Roach Rod (I think that's where I saw that) Depending on the column I'd think you would gain at least 1/2" to 3/4" - that's a lot of room in this context, right?

its been nearly 40 years but my T had a VW Bus column that went straight down in front of the seat. my legs straddled it and there was plenty room for three pedals after you got in. the steering wheel was flat I've always thought that was the ultimate T set up but I never see it any more [IMG]

AMEN - finding that out for myself - esp. since the wide as a single wide trailer Buick motor & T400 fored me to cut some more space out of the floor & tunnel (itch..itch....)

I was going to run the column above the floor and joint it down to the steering box, have a spoon pedal for the gas on top of the******* and dont have a clue on the brake yet. [IMG]

We used a VW bus box, column and wheel, but it is mounted like a traditional steering box (just in front of the firewall. Pedals (pinto derivative?) are mounted on the firewall. gas is on the right, brake is just barely on the left (pad actually in front of the column) and clutch is more to the left. Pretty comfy.

We beat most of the plastic off of the center and spokes of the steering wheel and it looks pretty fawkin' cool.

I got to sit in a modern Indy car once, the pedals are as big as fifty cent pieces.
Good reason to use a high mounted box and steering shaft through the cowl like a sprint car.

I don't have a pic here (I'm at VLV) but I'll snap one when I get home. I've got a T-Roadster, not quite a bucket but it may give you an idea. There ain't a lot of room... I'm 6ft 290. I also noticed that it matters what kind of shoes I wear. Skater shoes are too wide and I'm always catching the throttle when I go for the brake. Much better if I wear my Chuck Talyors.

Running the gearbox on top of the frame and in front of the firewall really opens up the floorboard. This car has a reversed Corvair gearbox.

What gearbox are you using and where is it mounted?

On my 27 I ran it Grimlok style. Speedway sells the oversized heim to accept your 3/4 shaft, I hung it from the bottom of the dash, I mounted one of their swivel units to the firewall inside the car and hid it with the carpet. On top of the shaft I welded on one of their Quik release's and mounted my grant wheel to it.

I got sick of trying to make everything fit on the floorboards, so I firewall mounted a 60 Chev truck master cyl. I built the pedal****embly, linking both bores together, and ended up with plenty of room. I'm running a reversed corvair box. Excuse the car, its in its final mock-up stage.

I took a couple days off from the GB...Came in yesterday (sunday) and found a fresh starting place. One can learn from this folks. All progress must be made one step at a time. I decided to set the colum up first and by doing so I can see the correct path for the Brake pedal. I was trying so hard to get the two done at the same time I could focus. after yesterday I now have the colum in. guages in and speedo. Some good progress and some fresh modivation!! thanks for the pics and help guys
