Technical 24 model T on Model A chassis

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Nailhead dodge roadster, Feb 7, 2026.

  1. Starting a new project this weekend, a '24 T roadster on a model A ch***is. Looking for inspiration and build pictures from people that have been here before.

Sticking with the original model A power train for now with possibly a flathead in the future, sticking with the traditional look on this one.

Just set the body on the frame for the first time today so I have a long way to go.

there's a build thread on here too

  3. I started with that and made this... 24T roadster on an uncut A ch***is except the frame horns cut back. PA060074.jpeg 41.jpg

I forgot your roadster was on an A ch***is! otherwise it would have made the list too!

Fairly straightforward. The wheelbase is a couple of inches longer so if you run a hood you will need a custom one, if you run fenders you will need to extend the back of the front fenders or the running boards/aprons.

  6. I stepped the rear axle forward 3.5” to reduce the wheelbase to stock T 100”.

Above are a few pictures I had saved that I liked, and below is my car which is a '26 but it does have an earlier turtle deck and is on an A frame. I made my deck wider to fit the frame better.

Looks like you have a super clean body to start with, even has upholstery in it yet! I ***ume you're planning to pinch the frame rails at the firewall?

A guy could run Model A fender aprons on there too if you didn't want to cut the frame up.

  12. Thank you all for the replies and suggestions. I appreciate the pictures and details.

Im going back and forth between using the A ch***is and modifying it to fit the T body or using all the model A running gear and engine mounted in the T frame with the normal T speedster modifications to lower the spring mounts and and give it a racer stance. Either way I end up with better brakes and more power. I don't know if its any more or less work going with either option.

  13. Out of curiosity, has anyone here installed a model A engine and transmission into a model T? I would probably use the A axles also, so I don't have to modify a good A frame to fit the '24 body/turle deck.

I'll check out other posts in the search also. Hoping to see some engine and transmission mount ideas.

  14. I looked into a T frame initially, but as I'd planned to run fenders and splash aprons that kinda hides the A frame at the rear, so, apart from bobbing the front horns, I didn't alter the frame. IMG_5329.jpeg

The shape of the fenders where they mate to the aprons are a bit different between 1926-27 and 1928-29. Way different for earlier fenders or 1931 aprons.

I was thinking about just fender aprons alone, preferably the 31 style, without fenders. Like these cars have. It would mean he could run the frame basically as-is and it'd also hide the exhaust and stuff. The rear rails would still be wider than the turtle deck but could figure out something for that, too.

That look isn't for everyone but I like it and it might make this a whole lot simpler.

I'll be following along ...I have both options too I'm not sure which way i'll go either...but I'm leaning toward the T with spring behind out front and spring in front out back to allow some body set back for a V8...I like what you've got already it's more period correct than setting to chopping things up...I'd get it running and driving as it is...it will be a hoot...then work on the T ch***is on the side get it all nailed down then transfer your body and A stuff over
