  2. I'm a little fuzzy on the particulars, and I'm sure Google can
    advise on this, but the story of the "Baby Hemi" was that Chrysler
    originaly designed it to be an engine for Indy cars.
    It was designed as a high revving short stroke engine.
    When the Indy formula changed, Chrysler had a sweet little engine
    on its hands and stuck it in the dowdy Dodge. It was the D-500
    convertable version that was the Indy pace car in '54. If Dodge, or Chrysler
    for that matter, had a cool sporty body car to put it in, it
    would have changed mid '50's car history from the Chevy era to the Dodge era!
    IMHO!

    Here is my 1954 dodge royal 500 convertible Indy Pace car 241 hemi rebuilt with 0.40 high compression 10.1 venolia pistons, engine balanced & blueprinted , chris neilson hydralic cam stepped up in specs , heads with all new valves and springs and ported and polished . pertronic ignition , Correct offy 4bl intake and wcfb carb ..
    big power gains overall. !! love it .
