Hey guys, I need some input from the local hemi guru’s. I’ve looked through the hemi tech and read a few recent threads about the low deck hemi lifters, but my specific problem was not addressed so hopefully I’m not repeating a question that’s already been answered, apologies if I am.

I’m beginning ***embly of my 241, currently at the point of installing my roller cam (HR 324-108) and lifters from that originally came from the late great Donnie Johansen via hot heads a few years back. After My dad recommended checking my lifter oil alignment; from my measurements, the top of the oil groove is .6” from the top edge of the lifter. And from the outside edge of the lifter bore to the far side of the oil hole is ~.55” And since my lifters sit flush with edge when fully seated, so the oil journal is pretty much blocked when the lifter is bottomed out. With the oil groove being .5” wide and my cam having .486 lift it also won’t close off the oil journal topped out which I thought was necessary to “charge” the lifter. Granted it would do so in reverse (allow oil in while pushing the valve, then close off the journal when bottomed out, but would enough oil even flow into the oil band during the time it takes to travel up/down?)

here’s a couple photos if helps, I set it side by side to one of the original tappet lifter to show difference in oil band. Thanks in advance!

Hmmmm, not sure. Probably a bit too late...but on a 241 build on the now imploded Webrodder site they tapped the weep holes & installed pipe plugs, though they didn't really explain the reason for doing it.

I read a small write up that Nick Smithberg did on that, it’s to solve the problem of the oil band being exposed to the weep hole allowing oil to escape, so you can either drill/tap/plug the weep hole or use a blind pop rivet to seal the hole if the engine is ***embled, neither of which is necessary for me because I checked and the oil band never gets exposed to the weep hole in my situation.

and yes I’m on a first name basis with Eric at Hot Heads lol, but I know there are many knowledgeable sources on here so I figured having some more expert opinions would not be a bad thing.
Also, my dad who is extremely knowledgeable about early hemi’s said he’d have to think about it yesterday, and today and he said that it shouldn’t cause any problems.
