Thank you Rex. Pictures of your modified during construction were a source of information and inspiration during this build.
Cheers,

A bit more progress.
Got the pedals mounted for the last time. Made and welded a forward stop for the brake pedal.

Made a wood former for the top of the transmission tunnel out of 3/4" ply. Shaped the top edges so they are rounded. Ready to start beating on the aluminium.

The ECTA requires that fuel line is run inside steel tube in the area of the flywheel/clutch. A length of 14ga was cut and a tab welded to it so it can mount on the firewall.

That's all for now.
Cheers,
Stewart.

Had a couple of friends come and give me a days work today. Gerry and Gary reassembled the back axle, installed brake lines, and installed the rear brakes. Erik and me worked on the tonneau cover. Bolts across the front edge are in, and the curve and flange is done. I also made the cut-out for the roll bar. A bit of finish work and its done.

We are getting there. I have 44 available days left to get it ready, but whos counting!
Cheers,
Stewart.

Yeah, I'm in! So it's on. 44 available days to get it finished. Got the block back from the machine shop, waiting on cams. With 11:1 compression and some high lift cams it should scream.
How's your modified coming, should be close?
Cheers,
Stewart.

Just a couple of shots. Bought a load of Grade 8 bolts so stuff is going back together for the last time.
The harness bar will need bends at both ends, so I'm taking the car to my friend who runs a race car shop, to bend it. I could waste a lot of tube trying to get it right! Speedway parts arrived today, so more stuff to put on.
Slow, steady, IMG_2057.jpg IMG_2058.jpg IMG_2059.jpg progress.
Cheers,
Stewart.

It's great, the more parts you put on the car, the more room in the garage you get!
Looking more like a hot rod now. It will come down 1 1/2" in front when the engine and trans and stuff go in.

Looking good! Worked on upholstery, wiring and plumbing on our fauxbanger this weekend. It's almost ready to start up. Then have to do final work and paint on the body.

My buddy Chris said it looks like someone used an old dirt track roadster body, and it does. The body has creases ripples and dents. Looks like a bag of walnuts. So it has that look of an old beat up race car. The paint goes along with that. Really pleased with how it turned out. Wasn't planned, just got lucky!

IMG_2062.jpg Ready to race?....I wish!
Taking it over to a friend who runs a race car shop. He is going to make the harness bar for me.
Loading it was something different. I pushed it up on the trailer till the front wheels were on. It then grounded out on the trailer. I lifted the rear of the car with a floor jack and pushed it till the rear wheels were on the trailer. This the lightest thing on 4 wheels I have ever moved. I'm guessing it weighs less than 1000lbs as it sits, no engine or trans.
Cant wait to see it with the weight on the front, so it has more hot rod rake.
Cheers,
Stewart.

Was going to take it to Relix Riot, but it's so low I can't get it on or off the trailer without a floor jack!

Looks good. Take it to the Riot and just leave it on the trailer... no one will notice, or care! Gary

A few more things crossed off the list.
Finished the seat pans and cut the wood for the bases. Made and installed the sides of the trans tunnel.
Started on the "fun lever". Put a "T" in the brake line and a line to a Girling cylinder. Need to make the handle and pivot.
Got the engine and trans back in to mount some stuff. Forgot how tight everything is. Discovered a setback. When I positioned the engine and trans it was really tight between the distributor and the firewall. Had to drop the engine in without the dizzy cap, and put the cap on once the engine was bolted in. Because the original engine was ECM-EFI, the distributor had no vacuum advance. I tracked down a vacuum advance distributor from an early engine. Made the discovery today that the new distributor is 1" longer. Now I will need to cut a 4" hole in the firewall and make a dimple. So pissed with myself for not fitting the new distributor when I mounted the engine and trans.
Started on the exhaust. Decided Duct Tape wasn't a good hanger, so made some out of steel instead!
24 days until it goes on the trailer for Wilmington, no pressure. It will be down to the wire.
Cheers,

A couple of things crossed off.
Made some tabs for the front brake hoses and welded them in. Finished fitting all the hard brake lines and fitted the front hoses.
Finished up the fuel line. ECTA requires that any fuel line in the plane of the clutch be run in steel tube. So I made up a tube cover and fitted that as well. The pressure regulator and gauge were fitted to the firewall. thumbnail_IMG_20160906_154735394.jpg thumbnail_IMG_20160906_154757910.jpg
The "X" on the firewall is the centre of the recess I need to cut out for the distributor. To be less pissed with myself before I take my plasma cutter to the finished firewall. It needs to done, just not today. That band aid will get ripped off this week though.
Slow and steady.
Cheers,
Stewart.

Thank you. It sorta grows on you. There have been times when I wasn't quite sure, but now I can't wait to have it done. 21 days left.
