    Hey Ray,
What intake is that? Similar to a Clifford but not the same, right?

Yep, I was gonna say that too. All 49-54 1/2 and 3/4T 3 speed cases will work for this. I think the truck case is just a tad shorter than the car, maybe 1/4" or so but not enough to matter. It has been done to put V8s in 49-54 vehicles too, but that is really overloading the early trans internals. If done that way, be sure to check the cluster gear bearings or bushings as well as all other parts for condition.

Have a 50 3100 with a 250 and 350 tranny. did not build the engine and tranny was in when I bought it .. Has 250 with what we used to call a 3/4 cam , headers , holley 650 carb with vacuum secondarys . Engine is offset 2 inches to give header to steering box clearance, with no ill effects . Engine is rearward as far as possibly with fingers clearance at rear and that allows just enough clearance to rad. The engine/trany set up works great . This engine loves the RPM and really pulls strong. It has as near as I can figure , a 55-57 chevy differential and possibly 54 chevy front hubs and brakes. I also installed electric power steering ( saturn vue) that works great in all situations

Wow... Not being 'in the 6 loop' for years, 7 mains are the cat's ass! GREAT platform to build from, but reading typical engine life @100K miles is food for thought.
My 6 cyl. expertise of late (past 40 yrs.) has been with German engines, O.T. BMW, M.B., et al.
So, I was surprised to be enlightened to 7 mains in a Chevy 6! Hmmmmm....
    Good thread, thanks, all.

I am a chevy guy and have more miles being powered by sixes than any other engine. I love my 292. I have beat the crap out of 250 engines since I was 16 but I think the 235 was actually a better motor for these reasons. I think they ran smoother, kind of surprised Smooth was mentioned in a couple posts. the carbs on the late sixties engines were garbage. constantly coming loose and got worse in the smog era. integral heads just sucked [compared to the early stuff]. again I have run 250 engines out of both oil and antifreeze in poorer times of commuting and I couldn't kill them. we even went so far as to drain all the fluids out of a car slated for the bone yard and put a brick on the gas pedal. we stood back and waited for the bang...nothing, it just slowed to an idle and stopped. when it cooled off we tried it again with the same result. we gave up after a while.
easy to fix, parts are cheap, don't think they use any less fuel than a 283-307. not better than a 235.
I think you would be better off putting a 235 in. it will be easier and cheaper. if your going to swop drivelines go with a v8.

  6. Why a 250?

Why not 235 or better yet 261 and keep the correct family of engine in the engine bay, and most importantly it looks correct where a 250 looks totally out of place.

A 235 or 261 not a direct but much closer than the 250. As much as I hate to say it if you are going to all the work to put a 250 in you may a well do a Small Block Chevrolet.

    Exactly.
Caps are used in report writing. Caps are used on header information.
Caps are neater to use when writing. It makes for a better looking format.
There is no law or written rule when to use caps.
It's merely a stupid unwritten rule of the internet.
    Fuck the internet.
