Hey I was wondering if someone can tell me whether or not I can shave the deck on my 250 block .100 and still be safe. It's for a 303 project that we are resurching. thnx Patch

The easiest way to gain compression is to use a head off a 194 cu. in. engine. Be sure to avoid the 1962 head which has siamesed exhaust ports as well as siamesed intake ports.
As I recall, my main reference, the Leo Santucci book does not address large cuts on the block. He states that for all uses other than mild street hop up, the pistons and rods need to be replaced with race quality items. Therefore, the compression is gained with the piston and the smaller combustion chamber of the 194 head.
Slant six blocks can be cut .100". If you have one laying around you could compare deck thickness and let that be your guide.

Thnx for the reply, I have Leo's book and it does not address this issue. All the high horse engine parts are kinda spendy so my buddy at the machine shop and I are going to see about building a cheaper version it will be a 250 block,292 crank, sbc rods and pistons out of a 318, we will have to do some grinding and cutting and maybe some welding but where not afraid to get dirty. It will go in the car we just finished for next year " The Herminator". Thnx for your time Patch
