Not much to report. Been busy with other projects. Managed to finally build the famous hub puller. If you have not made one of these, find the thread and do it now. Worth it's weight in gold. Some machining pics: Started mounting pedals last night. Didn't get many pics. The motor mount risers we made had some issues and we have to redo them. Hope to have more progress next week.
Torque tube for sure. Using a 40 rear. Trying to decide whether or not to keep the bearing in the center. Not sure we need it, lots of extra work to keep it. Any thoughts?
Glad of that. Mine has an open drive and i just made a set of triangulated ladder bars from two pairs of radius rods, it was set up with just single 40s split rods, have no idea how they handled the Hemi. JW
I like the direction this is headed. Makes me want to drop all my current projects and get started on my '27!
Thanks for the compliments. Things moving slow right now with the holiday and I caught a cold. We got the risers under the motor and ran in to a snag. I have been working on pedals and the column drop/dashboard and floorboards. I'll get some pictures up when there is something to see. Thanks!
Been a little while since an update. A lot has happened, but not too many pictures. Lots of little things, and a few big ones. Got distracted by some magic beans from the evil craigs list: Finally got the trans off the motor, and amazingly, the motor turned over. Enough distraction. On to the roadster...
Before we could really mount the pedals, I wanted the column and wheel in final position. That meant a column drop of some sort. I came up with this. It worked great, but didn't leave a great situation for the dash. More on that later. First I made some temporary floorboards/patterns: This bolts to the stanchion holes: Bolted up:
With the column mounted, we could locate the pedals. We also had to make sure the motor and trans was in the final location to ensure the clutch works like its supposed to. I love this picture, boring the brake pedal: A lot of work between there and here, mounted up:
Moving on. I was not in love with the dash. I was going to have to just skin the bar of the column brace /mount and have a flat dash. There was not much room for gauges either. Once again, evil craigs list to the rescue. I found a cowl by accident and rolled the dice. It was cheap.
The adventure continues. This weeks episode; shorten the torque tube and build a driveshaft! Step 1: Cut out the center bearing: Step 2: Do lots of reading. Check the Tardel book. Think it over. Step 3: Decide it's too much work to fool with a solid driveshaft and center bearing. Step 4: Buy some 2" DOM tube from the fancy tube supplier and build the shaft, ala Tardel book. Step 5: Measure everything. Carefully. Step 6: Chop it up
That's as far as we got. Next week we will start on the drive shaft and I'll try to remember to take the damn pictures. Till then, happy holidays to y'all. Hope you had a great christmas, etc...
The jury is out on the dash. Nash and Chrysler have been suggested, as was Studebaker? The shell is steel. $189.00 shipped! It's going to have to be cut down a bit like everything else on this car, haha.
Thanks LSR. It looks even better in person. Going to make the stainless insert when I get all the gauges collected. Need to hit the swap meets.
Also picked this up. I missed one locally then found this one for the same price on the auction site. I like it.
Man you've found some cool stuff and what a cheap surround !!!!!! over here they are $550-$600 plus frieght, glass for $130 up. JW
