Some updates from last weekend, was able to finish up the X member in the frame, built the rear frame kickup/extensions, and made some tabs to mount the rear radius rods too. The X member tube is 1.5" wide, the joints are 2" wide, so I used some 1/4" plate to space the main, 3/16" plate out enough for a perfect fit. Need to fab the rear crossmember, picked up some tube to sleeve the mounts for the coilovers with and will get that done this weekend.

Also did a little foolin' around with the new tig welder. no filler. i can do without ok, but still trying to figure out how to properly add filler without sticking it to the puddle. how's this look? still using the wire feed for structural welds but the tig will do fine for everything else, these are some caps on the frame extensions

Stretched one days worth of work into two this weekend, got the rear frame all assembled and burned in, mounted the *gasp* coilovers, as well as the control arms and panhard bar. I need to move the c/o mount tube to the front, as it will hit the diff now. 4" of travel and 3" in between the diff and c/o mount. I'll save that for when I pull everything apart for paint and final welding though.

Sure enjoying the tig machine...getting more comfortable with the fille rod now as well

Wrapping up the trans mount tonight and then moving on to the cowl framing to hold the steering box

trans mount with 1" poly for a cushion. welded the seams with the new tig, testing it's (and mine) limits. It's rated for 3/16" and this was 1/4", I scored the bend with a grinder then closed it up with this, so the gap was pretty large

Can get a feel for the sweep and spread of the frame in these

I'm unfamiliar with building components for hot rods, I'm used to rock buggies with lots of gearing and bashing the under bits on top of large boulders. I probably could have gone with 1/8" rather then 3/16" for the main bracket portion. The first layer was to space the bracket out to fit the 2" width of the Johnny Joint ball.

Seems to me it's a little tight in there. I'd planned to make my own pedal assy and make it a right angle mount for the master, but after ordering the T5 adapter from Cornhusker I decided to just order a complete setup with cylinders and all from him as well.

The next project is to start the framework in the cowl to mount the steering box. I've been looking at a lot of pictures for some ideas and I think I'm going to try to fit the pitman arm on the inside of the body, similar to the bare metal Pinkee's A. Real simple (compared to the sector shaft extension required to mount it outside, though it does look like a fun project) and I think it's one of the better looking implimentations of cowl steering.
