Love this build. I've been lurking on it for months now.

One comment, I assume that you aren't running a hood based on those carbs.
Just throwing around my opinion here which you are free to ignore, but I think that this angle could be improved. It slants down from grill to cowl which is counter to most cowl to grill layouts, and makes the car feel folded up.

Not sure if you can move the brackets up on the cowl, or find a way to get the grille down further, but I think it would improve the look of the T.

    Keep up the amazing fabrication.

I was looking at that and will probably cut and modify the front support rod bracket on the rad. That bracket was installed by Griffin and if I slice it and weld in an inch wide strip of aluminum lowering it that much is all it needs.

I was more interested at first in the line from the cowl to the grille shell as shown by the tape in the picture without the carbs.

I think that shows the grille shell is pretty much bang on for height.

Thanks, I'm doing great these days. Feeling better as time passes. :)

Spent some time the past few days and installed some F1 front shock mounts with shorty tube shocks from So-Cal.
I'll probably be mounting the headlights from them as well. :)

Thanks, I'm trying to keep it clean and functional.

  8. Cheers Larry. Just wondering how close the tie rod gets to the shock mounts on lock side to side. JW

The tie rod clears the rad by about 1/4" on each side lock to lock and the clearance to the shock mounts is about 3/16" on each side.
Close but enough that when the steering reaches the stops on the spindles nothing touches. :)

  10. Was thinking it was close. JW :)

Your shock mounts came out very slick.
Glad to hear your feeling good.

I just wanted to say thanks for always posting such detailed photos. I'll be referencing this thread when I'm working on my front end.

Another sweaty day in the garage and a little step ahead.
I mounted the headlights off of the shock mounts using part of a pair of headlight stands that exstreamliner was kind enough to send to me.

I have some adjusting to do when it comes to final mounting later on which is usual.
The headlights are a pair of guide reproductions that my wife bought for my birthday from OTB.
    I like them :)

You weren't kiddin' man, you have been making progress! Love the shock mounts and love your headlight stands! Great work! Glad you're feeling well enough to work on it again too!

  16. Looking great Larry! That floor is amazing! I wish mine was all removable. Your trans tunnel is another story, what are you truing to do? Make the rest of us look bad? The work you put into this is just too much. ;) Keep it up!

Thanks Tim, I'm sure you noticed that the trans tunnel is also removable. I figured that if I ever have to get at things under there , brakes, shifter, trans etc., it will be a lot easier than pulling the body on a finished car. :)

Thanks for the info on the carbs, I was talking to Uncle Max today.

There's more to come, I'll be building headers and exhaust as soon as I wrap up the rad modification and the fan and shroud.
    Larry.

Spent some time and solved my radiator bottom outlet problem and also the issue of an electric fan which was a necessity due to the steering tie rod passing behind the rad.
I beefed up the Superbell steering arms with a little additional metal along one side to strengthen them and eliminate any possible flex due to their long design.
The lower rad outlet proved to stick out too far even after adding the drop fitting, so I flattened it out from the front so it clears the steering at full lock and then opened up the bottom and back for a free flow of coolant with a little creative aluminum fabrication.
Sure love my little Miller Diversion Tig that makes welding aluminum easy :)

For the fan, I started with a Flexalite 111, which is a puller fan that pulls a lot of CFM.
It's also the thinnest fan I could find
It comes in a plastic box like shroud that while it looks neat was never going to find it's way onto my build ;)
I started out with a sheet metal "shroud" I built and went from there.
Ideally a shroud should be spaced back a little from the rad to allow flow from the whole core.
It wasn't possible in this case so I opened up the area around the fan to allow some airflow and better cooling rather than having it blocked off.
The fan will pull air through where it counts.
Some pictures of the mayhem :D

Just for fun I hooked up my battery charger to the fan wires and it runs really nice and pulls air really well.
    Another step along the road.
Now to clean up my shop and get everything squared away for the next step. :)

In case anyone wondered, I rolled the ring for the fan shroud-mount using a small gear driven planetary ring roller.

Another update, I didn't like the "empty" "A" grille shell so I picked up a piece of #4 Stainless steel mesh.

I made a framework of small stainless tubing to fit inside the shell and a few legs to attach it to the shell so it all clears the rad.

I like the end results and I think the stainless mesh looks nice and will protect the rad well.

In case anyone wanted to know, the Stainless is 304 and the mesh size is #4 :)

Thanks for that info. I looks very clean. It will keep the big bugs out of the radiator.

They say that it's all in the details, or something like that :)
At a swap meet I had picked up some Y Block V8 fender emblems and decided to use one for a detail on the RPU.
I whipped up a bar that mounts to the bottom of the headlight mounts and places one in front of my mesh grille.
