  5. Larry, that engine sounds great!

The work you have done is exceptional, heck it should be show cased in Rodders Journal when done. HRP

  8. So is the snow starting to melt up there so can go for a drive around the corner for some fresh gas? Just curious. Duel sheild this quarter, thanks Larry.

The snow was melting a little bit today and we’re hoping that it keeps going.

It’s still early yet so I’m not saying that spring is coming yet :D

It’s a good thing I didn’t proclaim spring, we’re in for 15-20 cm of snow over the next couple of days

We could get about 1/2 of that Saturday and Sunday. I'll have to move some things back inside. It's been like spring here.

Maybe a closed cab would have been better for Alberta :)

In a month, your thread will be 10 years old. You must be itching to drive it...

    Absolutely itching for a drive.
Quality takes time when you do everything yourself and pay as you go.

:D You’re making it sound like the only weather we get is cold and snowy.

We actually have a pretty nice warm spring and summer and sometimes a decent fall once we get to the proper place in the earth’s rotation and the right spot on the calendar :D

So today I took care of another little item on the list.

The bottom of the bell housing/ adapter needed a cover for the flex plate/ring gear.

So I cut one out and painted it and then bolted it in place.

    Muffler grommets :D
Not quite muffler bearings but close :D

You may recall that on my exhaust system I incorporated a hanger at each end of my Porter mufflers.

In doing so I used the commonly used exhaust hanger grommets that sandwich the bracket and are mounted on a 3/8” bolt.

They work good and look good however I have discovered that in locations like directly above the mufflers that they are less than ideal.

    Why you might ask?

    Because they melted :eek::(:D

The two at the rear of my exhaust system are fine being hangers on the pipe portion of the exhaust system.
They don’t get as hot as the mufflers.

The grommets are available in black (low temperature) and blue (high temperature)
    and I used the blue.

Since the grommets mount the exhaust pretty solidly to begin with my solution was to break out my lathe and machine some brass grommets.

    They work fine.

Before you get excited about the solid mounting I will point out that my buddy with the 27 RPU has had his exhaust bolted tight with metal to metal hangers due to clearance issues and his system works great and has for over 20 years now with no problems.

I can add one of those on each side if need be. There’s a spot just inboard of where my pipes pass through the frame rails where they would fit provided they were about 6” long and not too large in the O.D.

I’m going to keep an eye on it but I may not have to do anything.

Maybe you could find a high temp rubber bolt for the brass grommets?

  24. Or, spring mount them like gas engine big trucks use to be (like radiator spring mounts; but sideways).

    I’m in agreement with that.

    o_O  :D I don’t think so :D

I really believe none of that will be necessary.

I agree, I don't think you'll have any problems with the current set up.
    Run it and forget it...woohoo

So I finally finished with the exhaust system mounts and then found something else to machine.

There’s always something more to do on this project.

I had discovered previously that the shouldered bolts for the tailgate cables would not allow the cable to rotate on them when closing the tailgate.

If the bolts were tightened then they snugly grabbed the ends of the rubber coated cables.

So I machined a couple of shouldered washers to solve the problem.

Now they work as they should.

    Details :D

So guys I hope everyone is safe out there.
Going through some of my paperwork I came across the build sheet for my YBlock from Tim Mcmaster.
You’ve heard it run which it does really well and you can see why it will be a strong runner.
