Quiet yes. Busy too. Started building a new back yard shed the biggest I can build without a permit which is twice the size of the old tin shed that was there.

Trying to get stuff done between rain days.
I’ve started saying I didn’t know we had a monsoon season here

I know it’s not that bad but still
In any case it’s a busy summer so far.

There are no official car shows this summer but there are still unofficial gatherings in a few weekly parking lot locations that I hope to get to sometime before winter returns

 

How are you liking the helical gears?

 

I'd go for some of that rain if it comes without lightning. Not fun for roadster driving but good for other stuff.

 

Haven’t driven it yet with the gears or the new QA1s

I was told by my buddy that part of my roadster apprenticeship was to get caught out in the rain and get soaked.

I don’t know, I’ve done that plenty on 2 wheels in the past.

I’m resisting that one and since it keeps raining here the RPU is hiding in the garage.

The shed project gets delayed when it’s raining too

Just maybe we’ll get some nice weather so that I can get it done and then put a few more kilometres on the RPU too.

Summer has to happen sometime

 

I have been caught in the rain but it's something i really avoid, it spoils the fun and makes a mess of things. JW

 

I'd imagine that personally getting wet is the easy part of that.
The 40+ hours of cleaning is the part that sucks...

 

The left front tire is what really sucks when caught in the rain.

 

Well the verdict is in on the helical gears and the new QA1 coil overs.

I had the RPU out today after an interesting number of weeks.

We finished with the shed project and then I was able to get my garage back.

After that I spent a good week first of all removing the windshield and posts then wrapping the whole car up in poly.

After that came stripping the entire top of the cowl to bare metal to fix an epic screw up and oversight that I knew was wrong from the beginning.

During building the cowl suffered some damage to one side and on top of that I hadn’t really spent the proper amount of time with the metal work to get the proper finish.


In my defence I knew better and should have paused and got it right however by that time I was suffering from bodywork fatigue as you may recall I had spent every day from early morning until late afternoon for the entire summer prepping for paint.

So now it was time to get it done right I metal worked it for about 3 days hammer and dolly and borrowed stud gun and shrinking disc got it to the point where a skim of filler about 1/16” or less levels it out nicely.
I put the skim of filler over the primer I shot after the metal work and when it was sanded down and blocked before the high build it was thin enough to see the gray of the primer through it with no burn throughs


Then a little high build and some blocking and then paint.




Oh and the helical gears in the quick change are really nice.
Very much quieter than the howl of the straight cut gears.

The QA1 coil overs are a big improvement, they ride nice and the 150 pound coils are right on.
They have 18 clicks of dampening adjustment and I have them set at 5 clicks which is pretty good.
Really nice not to have my spine compressed on every little bump.

Only He That Fills Knows it's There......Blue One The Windshield off and on would have been standard procedure at many a drag strip and Ole Bonneville...back in the day...Do You plan on a trip down a 1/4 mile some day?

 

Man what a cringe filled photo set. But I know if must have been bugging the shit out of you, so what needs to be done needs to be done.

looks fantastic and glad the new updates have made it more driveable

 

It was Atomic for sure and became even more urgent when a 5” long crack appeared in the paint. Like I said I knew better.

I’m not sure, maybe so.

Yes it was bugging me knowing that I had taken a deviation from the path of the best quality I could produce.

When I looked at it one morning and a ugly crack had appeared the path was again clear

It’s not easy ripping into a finished car but I learned a lesson and made it right like I know I can.

 

The car is beautiful. Your attention to detail is amazing. Others seeing that crack would have questioned what was under the rest of the paint. You did what you had to do. That still doesn't make it easy when you just want to be done and drive it.

 

That’s why each car both takes longer and is better in quality than the last for me.

Re doing things 3 times on the 46 over the years to get it where I like it has made me take different steps on the A than I would have other wise.

call it a learning curve I guess lol

 

After some time spent running around without the top, enjoying some open air and also being sun baked I dug out the top and put it on for the first time since paint and assembly.

As you know I’ve been sorting out some small stuff getting the rear suspension and other things dialed in so now that everything works it was time to put the Rod Tops top into action.

Driving over to my buddies place today it proved to be a great top.

No issues at hiway speeds even driving over the limit

Another first
Today believe it or not the RPU got its first ever bath.

 

Oh my God you rebel, driving over the speed limit!!!

 

I like it way better with the top on. It adds some height proportion to the length of the car! Like the un-chopped look too. Way to many over chopped tops.

 

I like it too mostly because any lower for the windshield or top I couldn’t sit in it and drive.

My seat is already on the floor.

As far as the unchopped part goes the Mr Roadster windshield frame is chopped 4”.

 

T windshields are super tall...figured it was chopped a little...just not over chopped like so many are!
