The mutt seems to appreciate it anyway... Rover engined bike seems like a good idea. A mate, many years ago built one with a 332 Ford FE....He fell off on a run at meremere ,we were standing on the start line and could see it flying therough the air at the end,he was OK but the bike was a bit damaged. He didn't want his mum to find out so he was called Mr X heres a real pioneer! Plymouth FL6 powered bike! http://www.allpar.com/history/plymouth/motorcycle.html
Pulled the caps off, sounds much better, but set the bloody smoke alarms off! http://s372.photobucket.com/albums/...s pics/?action=view¤t=openpipesmpeg.flv
That bike is crazy!.......is that a V-8 I see stuffed in there? What components is Jeff using? Turbo on the front? Water cooled?
Its a Rover3.5litre/Buick215 V8, the bit of metal art at the front is a large header tank for the coolant, he has a small heater radiator visible at the front and a larger one that the air is ducted to lying flat behind it. Its direct drive to a bevel gearbox with a 1:1.5 reduction to put the drive out the side to a harley belt drive. Yes, it is a bit mad, in fact so is Jeff at times!
nice work and keep having fun with your project i have a 6 duce x1 that i am thinking of converting to efi mainly to see if i can get better proformance out of the manifold its for a small block chev
Thats another 1/2 hour gone, love the underslung look too. Built mine as a cheapskate way to get it low and not spend £££ on a ford axle. Blew it all on chrome though! Long wheelbase on mine of 123" and long custom made springs give a supple ride. Used a Ross steering box from a combine harvester with a similar through the cowl set up, 6 turns lock to lock ! Will post more detailed pics later if you like to see them.
Ok not a lot been happening on the car front, too bust trying to get work in during these tough times (Being self employed can be a bitch when the work dries up, you seem to spend as much time trying to get the work through the door as you do working to do it.) Anyhow spent a bit of time on the car tonight, first time in ages, and started working out how the steering box was going to mount. Needed to brace up the cowl a bit so got som 32x32x1.5mm (heaviest i could get in this size) box which i fitted inside the bracing either side of the back of the cowl. Cut a bit of 25x25x3mm to go across the top under the dash and to start the bracing and give me something to mount the box off. Of course it fouled the box so bent some 25mmx2mm bar to fit around the steering box. A lot of pissing around to get it looking kind of right but at least its a start (again) and the way is clear to work out where to go from here.
Nothing much been happening on the car, lack of $$ and time mainly. Had to pull the heads this week so i mocked up the new intake for a few photos.
Been doing a bit of work on the car over the past couple of weekends, got the house maintenance sorted so i can have time in the shed without the hassles from her indoors. The body needed a bit of bracing and i need to get the floor up off the exhaust etc so i used some 60x30x1.2mm i have lots of. It needed a bit of re-shaping to clear the trans & exhaust but come up nice.
Next was the trans tunnel which will be welded onto the front part of the front floor frame. As the drive shaft will be running through the cab at leg/hip level it had to be tough so I started with some 6' pipe, 1/4" couldnt get a long enough piece but as i had to spilt it i just welded the two halves together, I then welded some 4" plate 1/4 thick to it for the sides of the tunnel, and some more of the RHS to the sides to suit the floor height.
Built a frame up under the cowl over the weekend to mount the brake assemble off, and anything else that may need to be hidden up there
lookin good , keep at it. I know an ol redneck who wants a turn thrashing it round a dirt oval in Jan ! .
Big week next week, all being well. Working hard this week to get the domestic chores back in credit, so SWMBO won't notice me sneak away to work on the car!
MAde a bit of progress last week, the whole cowl steer was looking a bit like hard work, with lack of space once i got the brake master cyliinder & shafts etc up under the cowl so 4T6ford and i mocked up a HQ box sitting on the chassis rail, hooked it of with a bit of electrical conduit to a slingshot arm off the hub and bumpsteer did not look like too much of a problem. With that in mind i bent up a mount for part of the steering box to hook of the engine mount and fabbed up the main mount for the other two mounting holes which will be welded to the chassis, then when the engines out the two pieces will be welded together.
Its all made from 6mm plate so its very strong and while not the prettiest it should take plenty of abuse!!
Thanks for the kind words, i now have a remote brake booster to mount up there as well thanks to another HAMBer, 4T6ford. Got a busy few weeks coming up for the car. Steering rod & tierod now made from hydraulic pipe, driveshaft is underway, steering column underway plus a heap of other stuff still to be done before the dustup on 9th Jan.
