Getting some stuff done on it, finally! Cut the front crossmember out of it earlier today. I'll take some pictures this weekend. Norton
Looking good, Norton! Hook up the dam wiring and steering and put'er on the road! Don't worry about stopping because when your burning rubber, ya don't need brakes!
That thing is *****in'.Love the look and the frame.I know someone made the comment earlier in the thread that it looked heavy but I'm thinking of doing something along that line.I'll soon be starting on my first rod('27 mod or rpu)and I bought a perimeter "A" frame unwelded from Total Performance.Yeah, they're a little expensive but I picked it up at their Bunnell,Fl location so I didn't have to pay shipping.Since it's still a pile of sticks I guess design options are wide open.I'll probably go a little wider in the back so I can use my "A" rear crossmember.Keep the pix coming. b
Pretty sure it's going to look like this. WAY more pan clearance now. Still lots of brackets, gussets ect to put on. Thanks to Welders Series for making a great front crossmember.
Looking good, whatever you do don't put the cowl lower than the shell, you'll never here the end of it...lol
1 quick question. will the cross member want to pull open with it mounted just from the back like that? and another vote for little to no channel
I was looking at that too... I probably would have just made a notch in the frame rail and set the crossmember up in the notch rather than ****ing it up against the back side. If you weren't left with enough rail after you took the other crossmember off, then you're probably best making a gusset, like you said. What about continuing the outside of the frame rail to the front edge of the crossmember? Is there enough room for spring clearance at the very outside? I like the first picture too - nice line from the cowl to the shell, and I really like the wishbone placement at the cowl line and door line!
We cut the old crossmember out with plans for putting the new one in between the rails but, we really didn't like the way Grant had added extra length to the rails. When Skunk had first started the frame, he tapered the rails and they looked very good. Grant added some tubing to the ends of the rails and didn't make it the same height as the tubing it was welded to and it looked like ***. So we cut it off. D.W. I like the idea of continuing the outside of the rail. I'll do some measuring and let you know if that'll work. Thanks for the kind words fellas.
I noticed a gas tank on your wall, are you using that? Where are they made? Looks like a great project! Im working on a similar version.
dakotajayne, I am using it. It'll be hanging off the back of my car. I know that The HotRod Company sells them. They're an alliance vendor as well. 5% off.
I really like the stance and proportions, the rubber rake, everything looks good to me. Don't get too low in back and keep the channel to a minimum. Me likey!
I see in one of the pics you are running 500-15's up front. It also look slike you are running maybe 820-15's on the back? What size wheels? What are they off from? Man this car is sweet!
What are your frame dimensions? I'm planning a very similar car myself and I Love the look youve got going...
tjm73, You're spot on with the tire sizes. The wheels are 15x5 and 15x7. They are from Wheel Vintiques. tbraginton, I'll take some measurements for you. Thanks guys!
Not much progress to report... I'll be hitting this thing hard next week! Need to get the front of the frame done and the floor structure in the body.
