for all you guys that have done one of these i've been trying to figure out the most channel/ frame kickup i can run and still clear the body in the back of a turtledeck 27 i've been figureing on a 10 inch kickup with 3-4 channel using 2x3 stock, and i am pretty sure this is gonna clear, but can i go more? Just figuring up chassis dimensions right now so i don't even have a body to test fit. but i am planning on a glass body prolly something kinda like the goldenrod ( as far as stance) only a little wilder ( flake/radirs and of course 6x2) Any help would be most appreciated 12pack
Are you building an entire custom frame from 2x3 tubing, or adding a rear section to an existing A or T frame? I would mock the body up as you want it mounted over (or on?) the center section of the frame and make a few measurements. If your rear section stops sort of the very back of the turtledeck, you oughtta be able to hide quite a kick-up in there! Get the body situated on the mid-portion of the frame as you want it...then make adjustments to the front and rear to get the ride height/stance you're after.
I'm doing my own 2x3 chassis and like i said i don't even have the body yet just trying to get a feel for what is possible i'm still in the planning stage so i'm not quite that far since without the body here i've been kinda figuring the bodydeck height at axle centerline somewhere in the 18 inch range. this would make things pretty tight with the channel and a substancial kickup i've seem some on here that i thought sat right, so just throwing it out there
My 27 is in storage a few miles away,so I can't measure now. It's not channeled, but it has a helluva kick up in the rear!
Check out the post of T on an A frame..., Bobleed posted a couple of pictures of a 27 roadster on a radical chassis. Mark
just as an idea of how low i'm talkin i'm shotting for a 26 1/2 cowl height all together that is figuring on a 22 1/2 cowl height on the body sitting by itself on the ground
the pics bleed posted are pretty cool i'm thinking just the 2x3 frame not z'd in the front but use a spring behind front end with a 4inch drop axle
Sorry the post is..., T on A rails? tourings? pictures? ( Pages 1 2 all ) Again Bobleed has that thing low and has plenty of interior space (for a "T")! He started with an "A" frame and just started modifying it to look right with the springs and axles he had. Check out that post Mark
jaker that thing is cool for sure you don't happen to have the measurement from the bottom of the body to the top of the turtle deck at the center of the wheelwell do ya think would answer a lot as to far as how much i can do in the rear and still manage to make it all fit in there!!!
Hey Jaker Congrats on the Great Rod! What are you going to put in it for a Drivetrain? Will it be on the road for the Hunnert car Pile-up? Mark
thanks mark - not sure about the drivetrain, but whatever it is it's going to be kick****. I'm kicking around a couple of different ideas.
Jaker Just so happens that I know a guy with a lot of 401 buick stuff.... (besides Bleed!)! Let me know maybe I can help! Mark
lulabelle Thats a great looking "T" and it seems to be fairly complete..., When are you going to start on it? Are you going to keep it in pink primer? If so you can call it the "Pink Panther!" Did You know that Duct tape comes in different colors? Love your artwork..., How can I see more of it? Mark
That primer was lifted from a local train car building shop.I like the coments I get from the color, might just keep it.I stopped working on it about 5 years ago, when my son was on his way.Now I have a 4 1/2 year old who can't wait to ride in it!So I'm going to get on it soon.
[ QUOTE ] you don't happen to have the measurement from the bottom of the body to the top of the turtle deck at the center of the wheelwell do ya [/ QUOTE ] I just measure my '26 hiboy and it's right at 18" from the center of the wheelwell to a straight edge set across the trunk lid.
