Definitely a "different" approach , but clean and well executed. If people didn't think outside the lines, we'd still be looking at a horse's ass.

    Thank you!

It finally stopped raining for a couple minutes so I rolled it out again for some update pics.
There's been a few changes. The frame horns are gone and you'll notice the rolling stock has been swapped out for 7.50 and 6.00 Firestones on International wheels. The primer is temporary. It will eventually be gloss black.

It's come along ways but still lots of little stuff to do. image.jpeg

  12. Just sold em off to a fella who's gonna put em on a shoebox. They'll suit a shoe box perfect but I was looking for more of a rubber rake.

Get it running and you will have plenty of pep and vinegar

Clem, I think you are absolutely correct about the tube axle/4-bar argument. There is SO much difference between a racecar utilizing a tube axle with hairpins on a smooth track vs. a streetdriven rod with like suspension having to handle dips, bumps, uneven and undulating pavement, and otherwise shitty roads in America. I'll ride with you anytime, mate.

As long as you just did one, let me ask what all automatic transmissions did you find that can be hooked to the little Dodge hemi like you used, and I have?

  21. Thanks Loudbang, I think you're right!

Thanks! Any shots in particular you'd like to see? I just made a template with cardboard and took it to the local glass shop to have made. It's laminated safety glass with a green tint.

You're right to bring that up however I considered this carefully when building this part of the car. Search the HAMB and you'll see this subject has been beaten to death in the past. For every person that says it can't be done there will be someone saying that they've driven their rod with hairpins/tube axle for 35 years with no issues. I think split bones would be more of an issue than hairpins but then again there are folks who have run V8 60 axles with split bones for decades as well. I'll just run it and keep an eye on it.

    Thank you!

I didn't do a pile of research. I just bolted up a 904 with a 1/2" spacer. The flex plate came from B&M. Hope that helps!

You know, I read this whole post, you're a pretty well informed guy, your workmanship is first rate, I really like your build and will spend time crawling all over it should I see it in person admiring your work. Honest.
Why have you chosen to ignore scrub? Probably never happen, but should a blowout or flat happen at speed, it will be catastrophic, for you, passenger, which I bet will be your child, and or another motorist or pedestrian. Not trying to rape you here, honest, cause I really like your car, just wondering, also wondering how you'll get past the mechanical with it being low. Please don't be offended or take this as offensive, just a question, I'd be interested on your take on this issue.
I just finished my 27, going through the reggie process now, it's pretty easy, by the end of next week I'll be done and have mine on the road, I'll post the method to obtain vin numbers and forms used.

  24. Thanks for the kind words! I'm fine on the scrub line. With the larger diameter wheels and another leaf added we're good. I'll post a pic when it on the ground again.
And yes please keep us posted on the regi process! Did they give you any grief over the open wheels?

Looks like a careful and inventive build. It would be great to hear how it rides.

I've had to build fenders, my guy knows they'll come off, need a front bumper, rear is optional.
You only need three forms filled out, I'll post them later today, gotta dig them out, a weigh scale slip, and a mechanical. As you may know, the open wheel law is coming, it'll be here sometime this summer. DSC05869.JPG

Glad to hear that you are able to keep above the scrub line.
The car should be a lot of fun once you get it on the road.
Lower than I like but still will be a blast to drive.
Good to see you putting the exhaust system through the frame. Clearance is better and looks better too.
As for the fenders thing, I am building cycle fenders for my RPU.
They will be good looking and I will have the option to run them or not.
Most of the time it will be not but I can if I like.
Going to be moving out to the island and want to have the option for fenders even if the open wheel law is passed.
Seems to me that it has been taking an unusual amount of time for that law to be made official.
