I have been off site for a while but recently picked up a 27 tall t coupe project and a model t frame and have a front axle off either my 41 or 47 ford parts cars. I want to run a 9" rearend and I have a lead on a 71 cougar which I think has the 9" rearend. does anyone know if it is a 9"? thanks for any help.
If you can not get to the two bottom nuts to remove the 3rd member with a socket and extension, you have a 9". If all of the nuts can be removed with a rachet and socket extension, you have a 8". I believe the cougar could have had either one, depending in engine. Either one will be the small axle bearing.
I'm sure other folks have a better copy than this, but here for starters is a list of Ford 9" diff widths and models they were in. Good luck with that and keep us up to date on your build. There is also a T coupe thread running where folks have added a picture of their project...
