Need to replace the timing chain and gears on my 1955 270 Hemi. Question is how to remove the timing chain cover. Have most of the other stuff taken off already. Just need to know the procedure for taking the cover off ... Thanks in advance ... J.T...
Wouldn’t it be like every other one I’ve taken off, remove all the bolts that attach the cover, pull the damper remove all water pump and accessory’s in the way, am I missing something?
If it seems stuck, a couple of light taps with a rubber or plastic mallet should dislodge it. Or a metal hammer, and a block of wood. Try to avoid prying, so as to not damage the cover. If it still won't budge, you can try parting the gasket with a paint s****er, taping knife, or putty knife, lightly tapped with a hammer. The idea here is to use as little force as possible to dislodge it.
Like other tin covers, remove the front facing bolts and don't forget the two bolts that come through the pan rail...
As 73RR says don't forget the pan bolts. I often also use vice grips and pull the dowel pins out. Keeps from having pan flange issues. When all else fails pull out the Motors Manual of proper year and read the how to remove instructions. I wonder if they come up on a Google search?
