WP_20160303_004.jpg So, I need a bit of help. After doing a bit of comparison, my dad has decided to "un-sedan" this Model A. Could anyone with a '28/29 coupe help with a paper tracing of the rear quarter window opening? He's looking to determine how to get the existing shapes to look correct. He is aware the beltline trim is drastically different and has studied several photos...but... a paper tracing would answer a lot of questions. PM me if you could help out and we can iron out the details. Thanks!

WP_20160303_003.jpg Another pic... messing around with a hand drawn "guess" of how the window should look.

That's a pretty nice hammered Sedan. With all the work involved to make it into a Coupe, you'd be miles ahead to sell the Sedan, then add $1000-$2000 and pick up a comparable Coupe body.

back.jpg And so it begins... The sedan has been around the shop since 1993 when I bought it for dad for father's day... so, selling it isn't an option. He's just making "improvements"!!! LOL.

So... anyone care to help with a pattern? Thanks

Sedan bodies are wider than coupes, so your subframe will also need much altering to get the right proportion.
Do what you want, but I agree that you should just sell the sedan and buy a coupe. Unless you are a master bodyman, the sedan turned coupe will always look as such.

Actually, he is a master body man. I appreciate the opinions, but I asked if anyone could supply a paper tracing of a quarter window opening. Just saying... :) :) :) Trust me when I say, you will never know it started as a sedan...

I LOVE the "you can't do that" threads.
Looks like you (your dad) maybe CAN do that!

Looks great! I filled in the missing roof sections of a sport coupe using sectioned down Tudor pieces, worked out well, I used a garnish molding for the dimensions and was going to suggest the same to you but looks like you guys got your pattern and are well on your way, good work.

I assume you/dad, made a quarter window "perimeter" from sedan pieces? I've always thought that a chopped A coupe quarter opening looks upside down to me.... meaning the upper rear inside curve and lower rear inside curves look like they should be reversed and used on the opposite side of car.

If you can't understand how I wrote it, look at a real coupe with a chop, and study the rear upper and lower inside radii.

    Yours looks better to me

Is the bead below the 1/4 window from the sedan or fabricated?

Agree with F&J on the quarter window, what you did looks better than stock. Another option would be to stretch the doors and make a phantom three-window, best of luck with your project.

Definitely love your progress I have a sport coupe that I would like to add the top onto. However the coupe parts are hard to come by and I picked up a couple sedan rear quarters for 100 bucks I have been thinking of trying to do the exact same thing. But was worried at how the rear window would come out. Also the quarters I picked up were 30-31 my coupe is a 28-29. Probably have some issues there.

Dad gets a bit sidetracked camping in the summer... finally was snowed in last week and he had to work on something! :) A little nip & tuck and the old gender confused sedan is starting to look just right!
