Have any of you fellows have any experience, good, bad, or what ever, with Brookville's 28-29 smooth unplated grill shell? I am wondering about quality and how much work may have to be put into it to look good. the reason I ask, is that they list it as "imported". I know that Snyders Antique auto parts also sell's one, but do not know where they source their parts. Are there any other vendors that sell these 28-29 grill shells ? any help you fellows can provide would be appreciated. I have been on hold on my project for a while, and have not addressed my motor mount problem yet, for you fellows that may have read and/ or replied to my other posts asking for advise . I appreciate everyone's knowledge and help here, Thanks, ---Jim

  2. I purchased my '29 shell from C.W. Moss, in Orange, Ca. Don't know who made it, but it's nice.

Thanks Dean, I tried his web site, but it was down earlier today. I am looking for one that is not chrome , or nickel plated, just bare metal.

  4. I'd say the all come from the same place.

    Jim,
I have a filled and unplated one from speedway, Came to me with some parts.

I haven’t tried mounting it yet but it’s in the works for the winter. I have a banged up stock one now.

I don’t run a hood so I don’t how that will fit, what setup are you going with?

On a side note, it came in a nice Chinese looking box

Thanks for the offer, but I am looking for one that is filled and unplated . If I change my mind I will let you know. Thank you for your generous offer though , I appreciate it
I am not going to be running a hood or fenders, will be running a 28-9 filled , Painted grill. I will try to enclose a picture of the basic look, although the grill in the picture is stock

    Jim,
It’s warming up this week. I’ll pull the grill shell out and see how she lines up with the radiator.

I have a radiator from superior radiator, a really nice made in the USA piece that the stock grill shell fits well on.

Cliff, is your radiator Aluminum, or copper/brass/ tin? It looks Aluminum in the picture

To specifically answer your question: I have a new repro 28-29 shell. It is overall pretty nice. It would be an easy painter but don't know how much work it would take to plate it.

Where did you purchase you grill shell? I am not looking to plate, just a good paint job. looking to find some one who makes a metal one ( no fiberglass ) that does not need hours, and hours of work to get a nice smooth paint job on it. don't want it to look like you are heading into the foothills and full of waves

I used a speedway motors steel one before.... 4 coats of high build primer and everything blocked perfect. Probably had 4 hrs labor into it.

This is what I was looking to hear, that sounds reasonable to me, but it will probably take me 10 hrs, I am a poor bodyman, and I hate doing it. I would rather build an engine or do chassis, Diff., or trans work.
