Hey all, Did a search but couldn't find any pickup truck specific bench seat ideas. Think I have the seat part ciphered but looking for help with the backrest. For the seat, I planned to use the stock seat riser, 3/4" plywood on top, and then 2" foam with about an inch kickup for the seat as a bolster for my knees. For the backrest, I was planning on using 3/4" plywood laid on top of the slats that go from the back of seat rest to the back panel of the cab. A 1" layer of foam, and slightly more toward my butt for back support. So my questions for the backrest are: 1)Has anyone not used the slats at all on their pickup truck build? Or anyone that got the wood to sit flush to the slats? That would gain me a little more angle in the seat which feels better when I sit in the car. 2)Anyone use a thinner plywood than 3/4 on a seat or backrest? If so, whatd you do? 3)Anyone do that lawn chair webbing trick on the backrest with any success? 4) Could bucket seats help? I know austin healeys are nice, but cant find a pair anywhere and theyre pricey if I do see them. I also have a dodge minivan seat, but am hesitant to drill out the seat riser and try it because I think its too thick to begin with, and I like the room under the seat for battery and electrical panels etc. Just looking for any neat ideas. Ive attached pics of what seems most comfy so far (my phaeton seat with the piece of plywood backrest angled back more and not such a tall piece of plywood). Im running hanging pedals and copied badshifters idea for his firewall to recess as little as possible. Thanks in advance, Gordy
In my 27 T-coupe i used a narrowed bottom of a minivan seat and made the backrest in plywood. As in your case there was no way i could use the seats backrest.
