    That was my friend, Bill Cole’s car, one of the finest gentleman you’d ever meet. He was a member of the Whittier Strokers Car Club. He ran a 1941 346 C.I. Cad flathead in this roadster. He told me he raced a new Tucker on the Highway to El Mirage in 1949. He ran off and left the Tucker, the guy followed him to the Lakes turn off just to ask Bill what engine he was running.

    Not that I ever got there, but from afar the cars seemed less serious & more fun, more punk, less blues?? Or something like that

    haha! yeah something like that. it was a different time. I went for 10 years in a row. I have thousands of photos.

  23. I went every year until we moved away 24 years ago. It was a good time. When the shifters and the other clubs from down south started showing up with cars that had been put together with discarded parts the gold chainers didn't want, everyone went nuts. It was a great time. The restaurant with the Buffalo burgers was very cool too.
