Goodmorning to all! i'm Johnny from Italy. I'm searchin a technical information . Can i put a '39 ford drum brake to a '28-'31 spindle of a Model A pickup? Are they compatible? Thanks!
There are several kits of varying quality...you need 2 simple spacers. One is a ring that makes the raised circular part of spindle slightly larger so it fits the large hole in the brake plate, the other slides over the spindle pin and moves the inner bearing outward slightly because '28-35 spindle is slightly longer than the hydraulic ones. Once spacers are on, place brake on spindle and lengthen the bolt holes slightly so they meet the Model A bolt holes. Brake drum from '37-48 Ford will now go right on... it uses the same bearings even.
Shows you what I know,,,Back in the early 70's I wanted to do this but I couldn't find any information about the conversion. HRP
