After a couple of weekends we got the steering all together so we can make turns now, got the doors mocked in place so we know where the bodys final resting place is, and made the windshield posts. Enjoy, Rick
Looking good! She's coming together nicely. Hang in there with the GM body. Replacing the wood is a pain in the shorts but it's worth it!
hope your keeping that stovebolt.... love parallel leafs in front....the ford stuff is so overdone... keep the chevy a chevy!
Parallel leaves!!! Thank you for keeping your Chevy a Chevy and not a Model A wannabe. Where's the upper steering arm from? I assume that's an MAS drop axle w/ 49-54 pass car spindles & brakes? Ed
He got the steering arm from a buddy, but we think it is just like the one speedway has. He got the axle and spindles from speedway, the lower arms we made a pattern for and had another buddy make for it. There will be no ford parts, the only part we have used from another vehicle is the steering box from a '49 studebaker truck. Keeping it all chevy only made sense, i'm sure people will still call it a model A though, oh well....
We are replacing all the wood with 1x1 tubing, there wasn't much of it left anyways. Plus we're suiciding the doors and need the extra strength throughout the body, it's really not that bad of a project to replace the wood with steel. Rick
Nice keep us posted on the works. I hope to be able to see it in person someday. Seeing as how we don't live that far from each other.
When I did my Pontiac it was kind of ugly getting door openings that ended up being the right dimensions and curvature as the actual doors. Biggest piece of wood I had left when I started was about 8" long.
Coolio! Nice to see another hot rod going up in Raleigh,, especially by the John Goodman of rockabilly!
Another hot rod? This is the only hot rod being built in Raleigh, at least by a couple of guys that actually turn wrenches on their own cars. The "John Goodman of rockabilly" had me and the wife laughing our asses off, ... Good Times
Good move! When I started with my '31, most of the wood was in good shape... really just the two pieces that run between the sills and frame rails were rotted. Replacing those two pieces led to replacing everything. With the wooden structure, you could push the turret and watch the door frame flex on the opposite side. It's a whole different car after replacing the wood. It's solid as a rock.. no flex.. probably overbuilt.. Ed
Kudos from a fellow N. Carolinian and inline powered rod builder. Love to see more shots of your stovebolt. What kind of manifolds are you going to run?
Right now he is going to run the stock manifolds, if we find a good deal on a 2x2 its what he would probaly want for the future. We also talked about later on making some headers, right now he just wants to get it going. I checked out pics of your car thats sweet looking I love the oddball cars and running a six no less..... thats awesome, I was building a 48 nash on an s-10 frame with a caddy 425 before I met my now wife, wish I had kept that car...Oh well.
I haven't updated my website in at least a year. I just finished replacing that tired old 250 with a fresh 292. I've got a heated Clifford intake with a 4 bbl 390 cfm Holley and a set of headers on it. It sounds awsome and looks impressive. I've got the car mostly disassembled now. Getting ready for new color next week. I'll post some pics after painting. Your Chevy's gonna be a tough looking ride.
No way, he wants it as low as possible, I think we have some 14's on it now and the front axle is only 4 1/2 inches off the ground now.... thats just right.
Yep... and 364Nailhead (Rush) is building a '34 Truck on '32 Rails, Reece is building a sweet A Cabriolet.... There are quite a few hot rods being built by people who turn their own wrenches...
Yeah- zman. I kinda took offense to that one myself. In addition to the people zman referenced -I know of some top-notch work being done by some none HAMBers in the area-and I and EVERYBODY I know turns their own wrenches. Reece
OK, I guess I'm out of the loop. I guess you guys are the "Wrench Turners CC - Raleigh"? Cool stuff going on up there.
hey man, Very nice chevy. How is the steel replacement coming on the body? I built a 30 chevy and used almost all chevy. I used a 9" for the rear end. I did use the parallel leaves front and back. Would be nice to see some new pic's. thanks Sticks
KingpinOlds, Here's a question straight from left field.... In your pictures, I see that some of the interior walls of your garage have been finished with OSB. Any complaints? I hear the stuff smells pretty bad, even years after you hung it. Thanks, Ed
All these HAMBers from NC and I haven't meet any. I need to get out more. And guys building early chevy rods like I hope to some day do. Now thats what Im talking about.
Damn, Rick and Paulie. Two names I haven't seen in AWHILE......wondered what happened to you guys. Progress looks good on the Chevy, got a "done by" date?
