We started thrashing ******** last week with the hopes of getting my car ready for the Round-up. The build has already been delayed due to some incorrect incorrect parts, and now we are waiting on Mummert to finish my y-block bell housing so we can make the ****** mount. Tommy Jackson and I started with a stock frame that had been boxed and we gave the front of the frame the Bleed sweep that holds a stock front axle dropped by Okie Joe. The rear is suspended by a 40 ford front spring and will be getting some homemade ladder bars soon. The motor is a 292 Y-block that will be adapted to a 5-speed shortly. The body is a Ford AR Coupe that I got out of Oklahoma. I have no history on the car and I am looking for some insight on the best way to channel the body.
Looks like a start to a nice project, i see you and I are both shooting for the same goal here....... RoundUp 2010
Looks like your rear spring hangers are upside down and the shackle could hit it once under weight.........
Got the wishbone mounted. We chose to go with these radius mounts instead of rod ends. You get a good view of the front sweep here.
Nice build , I love the Bleed sweep , will be doing on my 4dr project . What does AR stand for ? Looks like a special coupe to me .
I don't know any history on AR, but I believe it was an early A Body with T running gear. I looks to me as if it were a special coupe that had been welded up. The body had been p***ed around a few times and the fellow I bought if from has no history on it.
AR, or early 28, is simply a designation for the first hundreds of As which have features which were discontinued during production but were sold. These features include the left-side hand brake, the multi-disc clutch, open-ended bumpers. There were no Model As built on T frames or with T running gear.
If you don't flip them you won't have any suspension clearance, as in the suspension won't be working. While you're at it you might widen them out a bit to get the spring under tension and add a gusset or two to stiffen them up. That might just end your fears of frame clearance problems too.
hey biggy... i love those old 292s it doesnt take much to make them holler. i heard the only way to put lifters in. is to turn the block crank side up- and drop the lifters in and then load the cam. is this true? just call me pop.
hey biggy... if you need any professional metal work done. dreddy bear is the man to see. that man is an artist with metal. call me pop.
Biggy, I think you body man and mine are related. My rear wheelwells look EXACTLY like yours. Nice project you have there.
We moved the rear spring mounts further apart and added the gussets. Installed some motor mounts and built the trans cross member. Started the ladder bars and we are waiting on some bar ends to be delivered.
Looks like a Posies AJ40NH rear spring. The hangers should be 44" apart. You got them upside down, and the gusset normally goes to the inside. Might as well fix it now instead of later. You shackles will bottom out by the time you put a body on it. Not trying to bust your chops. (we do 3-4 of those a week)
