Last big step for a little while, @Mikel50 stopped over and helped me get the body set on, we even managed to not chip any paint
Hoping to get back on this next week, need to paint the doors, trunk, dash and shell. Can’t wait to drive this thing and see how the big Nailhead runs down the road.
Great work on your coupe! I saw a picture earlier of the fuel tank you used and I was wondering where you got it. Thank you for sharing this build. It is a ton of work!
Thanks guys, @Dyce the tank is from Tanks inc I believe it’s a 14 gallon. I have adapted a low pressure 5psi OEM in tank housing and pump for it that I only have about $60 into also. I will put up some pictures soon and part #’s.
Be sure you mount it really good because you don't want it to come loose in case of a accident, the fuel alone in a 14 gallons tank weighs close to 130 lbs.+ the weight of the tank same for the Battery. You don't want either to become a flying object. Early movie star Tom Mix and Reta Hayward both were killed in different accidents from flying objects in their car.
Sand blasted and primed the big pieces a few weeks ago Was able to body work and paint the rest over the last couple of weeks. Going to try and get this stuff bolted on soon
Figured some people would be interested in this and would share this info on setting up a OE reliable in-tank pump on the cheap. I called up Airtex who is a OE supplier of fuel pumps and asked if they had a low psi in tank pump they offered. The picture below is the part number and specs of what I purchased. This is what the assembly looks like as purchased from eBay, you can buy them for under $50 . The gas tank is a Tanks inc universal 14 gallon. The hanger assembly is shaped all wrong for this tank but is an easy fix. Basically I cut the bracket and hard fuel line about 2”s from the base. Next laid the gasket from the Tanks inc flange on the flange of the new pump to cut the OD down and drill the new bolt pattern, picture below tells the story. Next up I measured the depth of the tank and used a piece of 1 1/2”, 3/16” stainless flat bar for the new bracket and bolted it down. Make up a longer power wire and a 12” piece of 3/8” R10 submersible fuel line to finish it up. That’s about it, and if there’s ever a problem a replacement pump can be bought without buying the whole assembly.
Had to mock up the dash quick to see how she looks. I almost did it gold like the horn button but glad I went this way seeing it together. Next I fit up the doors and deck lid, has some issues and chipped paint but the are working pretty good now. After the big pieces were all bolted on I went around and collected every part left on shelves and cabinets I could find and painted them black. With that stuff done I then had some glass cut and started getting that fit up and bolting small stuff together. That’s where it sits now, working on finishing up insulation this week and then start on the wiring harness.
