Hey guys, its been a while, so I'll start with an introduction, my name is tim and I am from the Minneapolis area. I am back looking for information on the latest project. We are going to stick a flathead into a 28 roadster pick up, and I am looking for any info/pictures/companies/anything that will keep us on the right track. Thanks a million!!!
Smokin Joe, RUSH Chairman. Damned glad to meet ya! You're on the right track. Is that an Idaho plate? Here's my buddy Slade's. He's got a V-6 tho...Can't have everything I guess.
Welcome. The first thing is to go to a book store and buy How to build a traditional ford hot rod. This is by Mike Bishop and Vern Tardel. Super book and lots af pictures.
[ QUOTE ] Smokin' Joe- that truck is AWESOME! Any more pics of it? What a stance- that is SWEET! Thanks Jim [/ QUOTE ] I second that!
I don't know which one of those blond rpu's I like the most... Heres mine, the engine is finally almost at home in the ch***is, I recently aquirred a mint uncut 34 wishbone, mint set of A pillars and a gennie deuce shell and soon will start on getting the body cleaned up... rebuilt '47 59A and 39 gearbox, 32 K member, A diff, dropped 36 axle, stock body, f1 steering.
I have been working on cutting down and fitting the stock 32 K member into the A rails, so far the whole project has gone very smooth and I am happy with the results. If you are going to be building an AV8 the first thing you should have is the Bishop / tardell book. I can recite the ch***is chapter word for word, most nights after working on the car I sit on the tire, smile, and read the ch***is chapter of the book again... Get ready for some serious parts chasing as you need some very specific pieces. I was fortunate and bought someone else's unfinished project (A sedan) which he had collected and restored most of the specific pieces and I have just had to fill in holes. Of the parts the past owner collected he only settled for cream of the crop and this is a huge help in putting this heap together... Enjoy...
You should keep those tall wheels on it and channel it. I like the tires at the same level as the top of the bed. Sweet tuck and roll tonneau cover to match your seat. That's my opinion, I'm sure you really care!
Actually it's a South Dakota plate. My friend just pulled this truck off of e-bay last week. One mans garbage... You know the rest.
this roadster pickup was built around 60 it had a flathead at first build but was changed to a sbc at sime time.
Welcome Tim, Since you like flatheads thats enough of an intro for me Here's some good websites to get you in the right direction. macs site bill ben flathead rumble seats tips mulligans flathead Good luck !
Thanks, looks like alot of good flathead parts and info on those sites. Still looking for mount info, as well as wondering if the stock transmission will bolt up to a flathead.
i'd try to get a flathead ****** also when you get your motor....i'm pretty sure that's why they change the k-member...to fit the newer ****** and driveshaft
Man, just get it down low w/ some rake, drop that flattie in, and call it even. It would be a shame to mess w/ that patina.
Dude, you really screwed up buying that RPu, it is a piece of **** that no one here in Rapid City would even look at!!!!
Daily driver (15years) I photoed in January, yes that is snow in the background... Toyota running gear...
See what I mean.............. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB3&Number=412002&Forum=UBB3&Words=Model&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=3weeks&Main=412002&Search=true#Post412002
Maybe you had a better truck for us? Didnt think so, but thanks for that useless tidbit of information.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..............take a look at my link. You bought the truck I was selling! I did that auction for my pal Randy. I intended on being there when you picked it up, sorry I forgot, even more so now that I know you are a HAMBer!!!!! I was about 5 minutes away working at our shop. And you bought a very nice little truck. I hope you have fun with it. There were lots of us that wanted that RPU, just too many cars and not enough money was the story!!
Sorry about that, I twisted your comment about this truck with your comment about the other... You going to make the 9 hour drive to 50's next week?
Just meesin with ya. I really wish I had that truck! Wont be making BTT50s this year, in a trash to finish my touring.
