As DDDenny said, Novas could be had with a 4 cylinder from 1962-1970. The advent of the Vega in '71 ended that. The Nova 4 cylinder was 153 cid, 90 hp, 3.88 bore and 3.27 stroke. A lot more boats have the engine than did the Novas.

  2. Your best bet would be hit some local car shows talk to some grey heads and maybe just maybe you'll gain a friend or two and find someone willing to give you a hand and lead you in the right direction. Most of us old farts are still 18 at heart and always willing to help the hobby progress. What part of the country are you from ?

Welcome from NY, I doubt you'll ever need to go any faster than the car will take you. Read, read and read some more. Don't ever stop asking questions and when you teach it you learn better.

There are a few project late 60s GMs on local CL at the moment.

  5. Yeah as far as the Impala goes, I think I'm going to keep it a nice cruiser, the only upgrade being a good quality exhaust because the stock one is rotting out. I kind jus accepted it for what it is and I still love it. As for my need for speed, I'm thinking maybe a nova or maybe a Dart Swinger (I know this is a 65 and earlier forum, pardon my mention of a Dart Swinger), something light that'll be good on a drag strip and easy/cheap to work on. I'm grateful for all the input I've received, this forum has been great so for [emoji274]

Check out brockman mellowtones they will really sound like a Classic Chevy and better than flow masters IMHO. Here is a video of a truck but a 283 with mellowtones won't know the difference if it is in a truck or an impala.

Check out this video on YouTube:

I am running a 283 in my truck and TBH I am just aching to drop in a 348. BUT I'll never need it because I mainly max out at 40 where I live due to traffic and signals.

    Edit:

This is not my truck on the YouTube

I agree with the transmission swap. If the car is a dog 40-60 mph second gear in a TH-350 is the answer. You get a better 1st gear ratio too so more pep off the line. Both transmissions top gear is 1:1 so freeway cruising remains the same...and gas milage...the powerglide has 2 speeds the TH-350 has 3. The transmission is hidden so your car still looks stock but it's now a 3 speed. Factory ram horn exhaust manifolds and dual exhaust 2" should be fine. The Pextronix electronic ignition conversion drops right into your distributor, it eliminates the stock points but there is nothing wrong with stock points if they are working properly. Nice car good luck have fun with it.
