I have a 3x2 setup that I want to run on my 283. I have two questions. info: 40 over,9:1, 260H comp cam (1) can I run stock ramhorns,or would shorty headers be better. (2) what car or what is part # for small body hei Thanks in advance for help
I'd go with headers and if you can find an old points style dizzy you can pick up a pertronix kit for it to keep hei for about 70.00 then you'll need 8mm wires and the flamethrower coil. Look at Jegs or Summit
If your fortunate enough to find a pair the 2 1/2" Corvette rams horns would be an excellent exhaust while maintaining that nostalgic feel to the engine, although the standard 2" rams horn would be sufficient for a 283. And the suggestion of the Pertronix ignition conversion for an early style points distributer is also right on the mark. Frank
(1) If you can't find an original set of 2.5" Corvette rams horn manifolds, they do reproduce them. Ecklers has them, so does Dorman. I bought the Dorman ones, they don't have the GM casting numbers like the Ecklers appear to in their photos, but they fit fine nonetheless.
