Technical 283 block ID

I'm having a tough time figuring out what block I have. The casting number is 3789935 which I believe is 58-64, the date code is E172, so that would be 62. The engine ID is F05I8D and this is where I get thrown off, I can't seem to find any sort of information on that type of engine ID. Is there somewhere else I should be checking for numbers to help identify?

yeah, pretty much a 2bbl 283 with powerglide. The boringest V8 engine you could get from Chevy back then.

F means Flint engine plant
0518 means May 18 assembly date
D means it's a 2bbl 283 with PG

 

Thanks, guys. It's going in my 1927 T so it should be enough engine for that, as boring as it may be.

In relation to power and hp maybe considered boring but very economical . I had an early Nova with 283 two bbl. 4 speed and 3:08 gears. 31.2 mpg on a trip. Two squirts on the gas and touch the key and the engine was purring . I left the The LT-1 , 4:10 geared other Nova sit home while the 283 was my easy driver. The lil 283 sbc sporting 3 2s , some finned Corvette valve covers looks good in any rod. jmo.

 

At 195hp, it's not as boring as most of the engines on that list...

 

Put it next to a Fuelie 327, and it's pretty boring.

 

To make it worse, I think they were 170 hp in late 62 lol. Lippy

 

The block isn't what makes power, anyways. In a hot rod, the stamped numbers really don't mean anything. But now you know what it came from.
