283 chevy v8

Can someone tell me if a 1961-64 chevrolet 283 has a rope type rear main seal? Also do they make a neoprene seal that you can replace it with? thanks, lloyd Tremayne

59 was last year for the rope, I think...58 had it, 60 was neoprene.

 

ropes are for Pinatas

 

Just went through this when researching a rear main seal for a 348.

They switched over to neoprene by 59 on the SBC and W motor
