I'm trying to look up this code from a 283 but can't figure out what part of it is.
    cast# 3756519
The code is F0412D I don't think there is anything after D. (can't see anything at all)

But I don't see anything that matches. This was supposed to have come from a 70's Vette, but I'm pretty sure it was much older.

    Thanks for any info.

Look for the casting dates. On the block on top of the bell housing area. On the heads under the valve covers between the intake rockers. Example would be C 14 3 or
D 2 63 The letter is the month "A" Jan. "B" Feb "C" March etc. Second number is the day. The last number is the year "63" or the last number of the year "3"

    OK, thanks for the info.

I know nothing about chevy motors, but am wanting to get one of these(or a 327) for a project. Would this truck motor be a good start or should I hold out for another.

It has the low comp heads, btw.

The first letter in front of the digits was for the engine plant, "F" stands for Flint, MI. The "0412" I believe indicates the engine was ***embled on the 4th day of December, the year you can determine from casting dates as mentioned above.
