I was searching through sites to try to identify this engine. It doesn't make sense to me. I'm told it is out of a 63 impala. Attaching pictures to see if I am reading it wrong. Asking for a bit of help from the experts.
The experts on here just I.D'd mine for me recently. They are going to want a picture of the block casting # and the date code, both raised numbers and letters on the back of the block where the bellhousing bolts on. Might help to wire brush that front pad too, make the numbers all stand out more.
Can’t read the stamping very well on my phone here is a lift of suffix codes http://www.1968ss.com/sbcsuffix.asp and casting numbers https://www.ss396.com/cars/small-block-chevy-identification-guide/ casting number and the letter/letters stamped on the front will get ya there
looks like it says Y something. Like he said, casting number and date on the back of the block, and clean it up so we can see what the "something" is on the stamp. And if it is indeed YW, then the 327 was out of a 1966 big truck, or a 1967 K10-20, or a 1968 big truck. Casting date will tell you what year.
It also helps when posting pictures to select “full image” so we don’t have to deal with those small pictures
casting number is 64-67 327 or 67 302. hard to read the first character in the casting date (maybe a D?) but it is 1967
Did the 4" bore 327s come factory with those 283 power pack heads installed ? My '65 chevy truck had powerpack heads cause it was a 283. Had a carter 4 barrel too
67 makes it a K10-K20 engine, interesting. If that's really YW, it's sure hard to read without some cleaning off
I was just telling what the casting number was..... the book lists it as 64-67 327 and 67 302, we know this is not a 67 Z28 engine
What kind of compression ratio did that have? .... 327, 4" bore with powerpack, 59cc chamber, heads and flat top pistons ? IIRC my1965 truck 283 with carter 4 barrel, had 9.5:1 compression ration, and 220 hp . .
