283 SBC Question.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Harrison, Jan 19, 2006.

  1. Might be tough to fit that under stock height valve covers. To fit poly-locks under a pair 327 style valve covers on my '40 coupe, I had to machine them down shorter.

Yes, the 365hp 327 used the 30-30 camshaft.

Look for Johnson's Speed warehouse or something like that on ebay stores.

Just to put some fuel on the fire....

    I wanted a Duntov cam in my 283 (it's an "era-correct" engine in a '31 coupe).

I called around to the cam tech lines and ended up with an Isky Z-25 cam. (btw, I highly recommend calling everyone's tech lines. I've found some really knowledgeable and insightful help at Isky and Comp)

The Z-25 is a pretty similar cam... tech said it would make the same peak power with less loss at low rpm's. Desktop Dyno agreed.

Unfortunately, the engine has been built for a year and I still haven't fired it up yet! Damn AADD (automtive attention defecit disorder)!
