289 casting #'s & other questions

    only sbf blocks stamped pre '68 were hipo blocks. All other regular 260, 289's did not get stamped. In '68 Ford started stamping blocks on the pad at the top,center of block, at the back of intake area.

    Fuzzy,you have an OE 306 block?? Those are rare!!!!
     
  5. I might be wrong about that ? I think it is really a 70 or 71 truck/Van block bored 30 over to make it 306

    Correct. And, they did not start stamping the VIN on the HiPo blocks until 1965 (model year or calendar year?). The 1963 and 1964 HiPos did not have the VIN stamped on the block. (Per Dave Mannel's authoritative book on the SBF, Mustang & Ford Small Block V8, 1962-1969, List of Changes.)
