I have a feeling I'll probably be bugging you guys a lot being this is my first Model A build. Here's today's dilemma. In your opinion ,what are my options? Modify the body or modify the frame or both? Thanks , Bill
Just modify your subrails. In particular in the front. Cut out the piece from door jamb forward, move it up, weld back in and your life will get allot easier.
Both. Do you have seperate frame rails? They'll pinching to get inside the rear fenderwells, I then belly the '32 rails in the middle a little to keep reveal consistant - body to frame - and then pinch at the cowl, kick back out for front crossmember. The early model A needs to be spot-on, dwgs are available from Wescotts and go by the cowl bolt holes at the 'A' pillar. You can set your entire body on a sheet of plywood and make a template, the rear will have to be cut out for the frame kickup and that is where you need to step it in to get back inside the body. The pic is a 28-9 Sedan template.
Fuzzy, I've always liked the looks of your car. I'm not totally against using a filler strip, but I'm hoping to close the gap some before I start thinkin' about using one. Thanks , Bill
Like Pinewood said, taper the cowel and it will ciose up the gap. It does not take much. Here are 2 pictures of my 29 that on a 32 frame and it was done in late 50's . I don't like the wood spacer. Also a picture of my Tudor that we cut the inner lip off the subframe and pinched the rails in to channel it about 1 in. Good luck with your projects always loved 29 on 32 rails. Frank
