Why do I always start with crap? So this is the starting point, and the plan. I have titled truck, 40000 mile original 265 chevy, muncie M21, and a V8 quickchange. I may ditch the muncie for a T5. Standard hot rod stuff. Box frame, dropped axle, split wishbones, reverse eyes on both springs and remove a leaf or two, 16x3.5 or 4 steelies up front, and 16x4.5 rears. Bias ply black walls, bigs n littles. Juice brakes, maybe MAYBE chop the top 1.5 inches so you have to look carefully to see if anything was done. Keeping hood, fenders, etc. May just run hood top. F1 or F100 steering box. The mundane stuff, rust repair, replace wood, align gaps, etc. Anyone need a running banger with an Otwell Health Heater Manifold? Work will commence soon, like Saturday.

That's a GREAT start for a sweet rod.

  7. Looks alot better than the one i got several weeks ago.I drove 800 miles for mine.Wouldn't you know it, I found one 12 miles from my house last saterday thats better. Going to combine the 2 with the best parts from both.

Looks pretty good to me compared to what I started with. I would go with the T5, I love the over drive in my pickup. Here is a after pic, running a 283. That cab gets small quick with a V8. Keep us posted...

Looks like you had to set the firewall back a bit for the distributor? Have any engine shots? Looking good.

X2. That is one thing that I can't get past on these. To me, it catches the eye and does not look right.

See if you can find any pictures of Jake's (as in Pete and Jake's) A pickup. If that doesn't get your juices flowing nothing will. He built it before joining forces with Pete Chiporis (sp) to form the Pete and Jakes hot rod business.

Gawd i hope your a little fellow... Got mine together and El polacko and I sat in it and damn near killed each other. "Get on your side!" "Stay on yours!" Hell, it wasn't even running yet - that was just spittin' on the windshield time in the drive way! My point is, as much as I love these things, they are just a bit small for a normal person and better suited for those of the "Shetland person" varity... That alone would make my think twice about the chop.

the above states it just right for my 25 project, it did start life as a truck but now is chopped, the windsheild is 7" and it was made into a panel, it will be cool when done, i am also building a 1955 chevy series 5700 truck with a kenworth sleeper as the car hauler, and yes they both will be more of the rat rod style.

I tried very hard not to recess the firewall and just notch it were needed while still using the stock tank. It is a very tight fit, I have about 5/8 inch from the water pump pulley to the radiator but it works. Although I have to take the tranny mount off and back up the rear of the tranny and pull the manifold to take the dizzy out. These are the best pics I have right now, feel free if you want more pics or any measurments.

Lucky for me I have some good names to coach/guide me through on this deal. The details make the difference and I'm hoping to be pretty period correct. Jims truck RULED, mine will be just another hot rod.

Thanks! That's 2 days in a row somebody said that about something I wrote! Thanks for the pics. I go to Bakersfield several times a month. Maybe I'll get a chance to check out your truck hint hint. Thanks for the pics too.

Yeah they are tiny. I'm 5'11", and I've spent some time in a customers CCPU. Very little padding on the back seat. I can live with it.
