Yes, some seemingly minor progress, but progress nonetheless.

I just got the motor back from machining and assembly, but I still need to put the top end on it. We decided to go with a 1.6 rocker on the intake to bump the lift up a little bit, so I'm just waiting on rockers and pushrods.

I have a whole thread's worth of photos of the 265. I was going to wait until it was painted and the headers were built to post them, but I'll put some up here for now.

I'd wager that this is the gnarliest '56 265 built in many years. And the cool thing is it's being done with mostly old late '50s-early 60's speed parts and meticulous machinework.

Here it is on the boring bar...it had to be cut .125" over to use the NOS Jahns stroker pistons I wanted to use.

Since it was being bored so much, Eric re-centered the bores as he cut them. He sort of blueprinted the bore/mains to make sure he was boring the hole directly on center.

Here Eric is sonic checking the cylinder wall thickness to make sure it's going to be safe. .125" is pretty much the maximum overbore for the '56 block.

Taking a clean-up cut off of the deck...

    Line honing the mains...

After the basic machinework had been done, I got the block back from Eric to start the laborious task of deburring/polishing the outside of the block.

This is not something a sane person does to a '56 Corvette block, I know. But fuck it....it's going in a hot rod!

After final machinework, honing, and a thorough cleaning it was time for assembly. You can see here how the block has been notched in the mill for rod bolt clearance...

Eric modified the oiling to work like a later model small block's oiling...so a notched cam is no longer necessary.

    Beginning to check clearance...

    "Carter" 1/4 inch stroker crank:

Heavy metal....I believe it took seven slugs total.

Degreeing in the Iskenderian solid roller...

That's all I'm going to show of the bottom end, but I will show you one of the '57 Fuelie heads. They are now fully ported and have Ferrea 1.85 intakes and Manley 1.5 exhausts.

I also got the fuel block mounted and the lines to the carbs ran. It took me a LONG time to make a decision on where and how to mount the block so that the front line wouldn't have to be so long, and this is the best I could come up with.

The generator bracket has been made now as well...

I had to weld a bung on the intake to triangulate the bracket....I still need to make the adjuster.

My drums just came back from chrome a few days ago...so I couldn't resist turning them and mounting them on the car to see what they were going to look like.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the car is starting to look a lot like a life-size Weesner painting.....and that of course is a good thing!

One more sepia photo, and that's all for now. I'll try to post up some more in the coming weeks. I'm expecting to get some more done to the car pretty soon once I get a little more caught up on customer's projects.

    Thanks for looking....

This car is going to be awesome. Is there anything you are going to screw up so we can rag on you? I'm subscribing to this thread. Thanks for sharing all the pictures of the build.
