Had some spare time yesterday so,decided to fit my dash insert. First welded some bolts to the back of the dash. Then made some brackets to secure the insert. They were made from lengths of 12x6mm flat bar, with shorter lengths of 8mm square bar welded to them as spacers. I still have to add some warning lights either side of the speedo.Switches will be mounted in a second smaller turned panel beneath the dash. Cheers, Mark.
Hey buddy, looks like you're moving along at a nice clip there, I agree on the headlights closer together, what a difference an inch makes. Looks like the weather is warmer there now, makes it easier to get stuff done. Cheers from Texas.
Hey Nick, thanks. Can't beat playing with your bits, shiney or otherwise, every now and then! Thanks Gary.Yeah, weather's better now so I'm getting as much done as I can. Cheers fellas, Mark.
Mark, I saw your thread pop up... I knew it had to be spring in Scotland. good to see you back at it. I'm looking forward to watching your progress. Jay
Thanks! it is raining here today... I wanted to take it around the block a few times... maybe Sunday...
Got the F100 inner column shortened now and just about ready to weld on the top section of an early Ford tapered column and fit the '32 wheel. The wheels diameter is quite large.I'm just starting to realise how little room there is in a Model A,especially for an old fart like me with a middle-age spread!
Got the outer column shortened today and fabricated the column drop from 2mm mild steel and an off-cut of exhaust pipe.Still need to weld a couple of tabs to the pipe at the rear to take a pinch bolt. Not quite finished yet as I want to add a 'Deco' type design to the centre to match the trim on the headlamps. Cheers, Mark.
Cheers Nick. Oh,by the way, your delivery of steel for July is likely to be quite big!Lots of work coming in.
Had some spare time today so,I rolled up a cover for the front frame horns.Still need trimming and final fitting but it's just about there. Cheers, Mark.
Mark my man!!! Give you some warm weather and look at you go!!! Looks Awesome! That drop makes me want to go out and build something... If you lived in Texas, you would have made it to the round up... My garage stayed 40 to 45* F before I turned on the heater...
Ha ha!Just playing catch-up after that miserable winter we had over here.May even pull some all-nighters later on.Whenever I get a gap between paying work,I jump back on it.Makes it easier though as I work from home and have all my tools and materials at hand. Thanks Jay. Mark.
Cheers Steve.I'll be there but I don't think the car will, unfortunately.Should be on the road sometime this year though.
Wow!Thanks, glad you like it. I had a good idea about the look and style of the car when I started but,it's sort of evolved as it's gone along. Some of the ideas I had at first have fallen by the wayside, others I've picked up(stolen!) from other builds as it's progressed. There's been a few mistakes along the way that have ended up in the scrap bin but I'm pleased at how it's coming along.I would have loved to have built a period correct late '40's car but didn't have the budget.Hopefully, when finished,it'll have at least some of the character of those early cars. Cheers, Mark
Trimmed up the frame horn cover and fitted it with Landrover floor screws until I find/make suitable replacements. Removed the seat base as I need to move it back a couple of inches for clearance. As the trans/shifter are from an early Mustang, the shifter is mounted on the rear of the tailshaft.I made a bracket to move the shifter about 5 inches further forward and altered the linkage to fit.The bend in the shifter is a problem as it will not clear the seat.I plan on removing the detent mechanism from the shifter, heat and bend it straight,re-fit the detent mechanism and fit a more suitable shift knob. That's all for now, Cheers, Mark.
Got the hand brake mounting bracket made today...... .....and fitted the hand brake lever.Don't know what it's from, possibly a fork lift truck. Hopefully get some more done this weekend. Cheers, Mark.
Looks like you are making great progress. Won't be long before you are out and about in it. Wanted to thank you for the engine mount dimensions you got to me some time ago. I finally got around to making them up. They look and work much better than what I had. Thanks.
Hi Kramer, you're welcome!Glad I could help.My first set of engine mounts were as ugly as a bulldog pissing on a nettle! They ended up in the scrap bin. Cheers, Mark.
