Hey mark, I like that brake lever mount, did you cut that out of one piece or is it several welded together, I'm needing something like that.,
GRITS-Hey Gary, how's it hangin'? I started off with three weld-on tabs which I keep in stock for fitting latches to the gates that I make.Drilled them out as required and bolted them to the gearbox. Then made the horizontal part of the bracket from 2 inch x3/16 flat bar to fit between the two upper mounting tabs.If you havn't got access to a good folder to give tight bends, you can get the same result by cutting accross the steel but,not all the way through, with a fine cutting disc, bend as required then weld up and dress. Then I eye-balled where I wanted the lever and drilled and shaped the bracket to suit. Next step was to take annother piece of the same flat bar, bend it to match the horizontal piece, shape it then weld on. I then drilled some extra holes to make it 'faster'. Regarding the weld on tabs,if you have a friendly local blacksmith, see if you can check out his suppliers catalogue. You should find some cool stuff that can be used on hot rods.Weld tabs, hinges, cast steel bushes etc. fiftyv8,ot0-m0t0 Thank guys. Cheers, Mark.
Awesome Mark, I got all the floors done then realized I forgot to do the e-brake, crap, now the body will be coming off again soon anyway, seeing what you've done is kinda what I was thinking of doing, mounting it on the tranny. Guess there's no problem with it interfering with the shifter? PS. I like the lever you're using, I have several of like handles, I have and original 30 short handle one I'm thinking of using, oh, and good morning
Hey Gary. No clearance issue between the shifter and hand brake as they're on opposite sides of the trans and the shifter is further to the rear.Only clearance issues were with the shifter and seat base. Cheers, Mark
Mark, As they say "it's the details that make the build !" . You are sure including some great details in your Hot Rod. Looking foward to more updates.
Thanks Dave.My build's realy picking up momentum now, can't keep my hands off of it! To avoid any problems with the law over here,I've reluctantly decided to fit fenders(cycle type).Archie(ap1930) dropped by today with a pair of trailer mud guards left over from his speedster build. They are a perfect radius for the front but a little wide so,I removed 2 inches from the centre and tacked them back together.I'll trim them down so they cover about 115 degrees of the tread.I'm hoping to get them finished tommorow and start work on mounting them. Cheers, Mark.
Mark I really like those fenders, very "Old Yella" or Phil Payne looking. I also like those headlights - what are they off??? Keep up the good work
Thanks mate.Glad you like the fenders. If I had a choice,I'd run without them. I'm hoping that when finished that they'll look like they belong there.Don't know if I can pull it off due to the style of build but,I'll give it a go! Yeah,I love those headlamps too.Not 100% certain what they're off. They're made by Marchal(French) and I think they're called 'Aerolux'.I only managed to find two examples of them, only difference is that the others have chrome buckets. One set was on a '37 Rolls Royce, custom built for an Indian Prince. The other set were on,get this,a 1936 Type 57C Buggatti Atalante! I think they're possibly a high end accessory lamp. Cheers, Mark.
After a couple of false starts(i.e. fuck-ups!),I worked out how I'm mounting the front fenders.I still have to add reinforcement to the underside of the fenders for some added strength. The small bolts in the fender will be replaced with rivets. The fender mounts to two threaded bungs welded to the brake back plate. I'm pretty pleased with how the fender sits on the tyre. Just got to copy this one on the other side now, that should be fun! Cheers, Mark.
Pugsy and Chopped26.Thanks fellas, best part is I can remove them in seconds! Corn coupe.Hi Mark.Getting closer but still lots to do.
Hi Steve. I'm actually a vehicle technician to trade(trained in the R.A.F.).I've got no formal qualifications in steel fabrication but have been making a living at it(just!) for the last 5 or 6 years, mainly sub-contracting to my son's fabrication company, making gates and railings.I get all the fancy ornamental stuff to do. Cheers, Mark.
Thanks 'ponchopowered' and 'hemifarris'.I've had to fabricate lots of parts as I don't have a big budget. If you have plenty of patience and are o.k. with basic hand tools,it's surprising what you can make. There's been a few mistakes along the way though,my scrap bin is always full! Cheers, Mark
Been there,Steve!Filled a skip with a split screen Moggy a few years back.I really made a mess of that car.LOL
I really like your RPU build!!! You have made some very cool brackets and widgets. The table legs you used for the lakes pipes was a very interesting touch. I bet a hotrod shop would charge a small fortune for those pieces of pipe!!! I was gathering parts for a RPU before I found my complete running driving coupe. I would still like to build one some day, as it would be easy to get in, and just throw my wheelchair in the bed! Very good work here!!! James
