Wisconsin modifieds 1958. That's a 29 roadster body with a 54 Chevy truck top behind the modified of Don Sorce. Super modified built and driven by Greg Krieger 1957 then sold to Don. The real point I am trying to make is this. What a bunch of butchers these back yard %@*^%! were. Really. A truck cab.
^^^^^^^ Hell, I wasted a couple tons of good old late-50's, early '60's Fords running late models, what's Your point?
I’ve certainly used up a lot of great iron going around in circles that people would love to have today.
It's the car behind, you can only see the top of the cowl. I don't get the point of the thread either though. We already have a couple of threads of pictures of cars getting obliterated going around in circles on dirt. p.s. not judging, just saying, we already have threads.
Yeah it's a shame but I really miss all those '30's bodied roundycars. The aluminum paneled cars now are for some reason just not as cool. I especially liked the ones made out of narrowed first generation Falcons. Many looked like a bag of walnuts but were sooooo neat. Those were the days.
I think he is being a smartass the stock car guys didn't waste one damn car! They gave cars languishing in the back row (used cars that no one wanted) of dealers, cars sitting and rotting in farmer's fields or in junkyards waiting to be crushed a second chance at life! For some reason guys who putter around on the street don't seem to understand that! I live in a very rural area there were no drag strips (until the late 50s) or airports, but there were fairgrounds with oval tracks, which is why we had stock car racing and not drag racing. In fact, the closest speed shop Frank Speed Shop in Fly Creek New York had stock cars not drag cars. Steve Danish with Frank Trinkaus #62 and Miss America 1958, Marilyn Van Derbur at Fonda Above Lee Millington in Frank Trinkaus #62.
My brother and i are the reason tri five chevys are so expensive today. We did demo derbies and dirt track roundy rounds.
I refuse to call a body used in oval track racing as wasted. To whit: The first is a 38 Ford business coupe, the only salvageable stuff was the roof and some of the trunk lid. The rest , oi! The 2nd was a 37 Chevy coupe that was on at least 2 cars. I'm not sure where it ended up, it was given to another racer late 70s, but I lost track of it. The 3rd was a 37 Chevy 2 door sedan. I was the last one to use it. Haywire Harry Hughes had it before me. I don't know who was first to use it, or if it didn't have multiple lives. Back to the 1st one, it had trees growing up thru it before this use, and chassis parts had been scavenged for other uses. So I prefer to call it repurposing. Something all hotrodders know about
Who knows what the rest of that roadster looked like. Could've been a hay truck for all we know. I call it fun.
So, in your mind it would have been better for this happen to them then for them to become stock cars?
I got this one out of a salvage yard in Fond du Lac Wisconsin. 1963. Only old car there. I had to cut it down the middle length wise to get it out. It was so far back in the yard. EWRA did not allow cut down bodies. It was a 36 Olds three window . I opened it up like a 5 window. I pie cut the 1/4 panels vertically to tip it down. Cut off about 3 feet and added the round part of a 50 Chevy hood.
