My thanks to you JD, it means a bunch to have you watching. Our mutual friend Pat, informed me about many of your accomplishments, in building and racing. The reason I take lots of photos is two fold, one to share with interested parties, the other is to save for reference later. I also make a point of downloading all the pictures of a certain project onto a thumb drive for the owner. That way, it simplifies assembly later. Hope to see you again sometime.

Yeah, it would be fun. Dean's old truck went 121 last year, might have been a white knuckle ride !

It was time to make a pattern for the Lexan windshield, it will be the exact size of the brown paper. Once it is fastened to the posts, I will shorten and round the tops. The tach and oil pressure bracket needed to be filled in behind. So I made a panel out of .063 aluminum. It will need a hole cut to allow the gauge to extend past. This is only temporary, until I make another panel to accept four 2-1/16" gauges in an X pattern. That won't be until next Winter when the truck is going to require some changes for street use. 6. Marty, the windshield will come off at the strip, won't it?

Dean, since it will only get time on the strip this year, I may shorten it to the height of Jim Stevens. I am trying to balance out the height of the roll bar, as I don't like it that tall. I am certain your roll bar was lower than mine, but the rules require 3" above the helmet. Modern helmets are thicker on top than in the 60's, probably an inch or so. It's always a balancing act to blend a true vintage look, that meets today's rules. Jim Stevens front shot.jpg

  8. Not 3" for sure Marty.

I bought and received the International master cyl, now to transfer punch and drill 2 holes and I can get it mounted in place. Thanks to all who suggested this remedy ! IMG_9242.JPG IMG_9241.JPG

Today, I welded gussets to the tach mount, it stiffened it up and looks more finished. Also, my neighbor Jimmy, acquired my late friend Ernie Martin's 56 big window pickup. It is one of the lowest mile trucks you will ever see. It has just over 35,000 miles, and has a tri-power 64-427 under the hood. There is such a story to tell about this pickup, I will do a separate thread someday soon. IMG_9231.JPG IMG_9262.JPG IMG_9263.JPG IMG_9245.JPG IMG_9249.JPG IMG_9252.JPG

Marty, I saw this photo which was posted on Front Engine Dragster Pictures Facebook page. I've only seen your picture on the HAMB, but I thought the driver of the FED sure looked like a younger you.....is it?

Lynn, like 36 years younger ! That was 1986, at Fremont, Ca. at the Nostalgia Nationals. It was my first time at the wheel of a Dragster. 2012-08-31 123144.jpg 2012-10-15 090016.jpg 2012-10-15 090327.jpg

I drove the roadster to Inspection one time at El Mirage. Got a few chuckles out of it.

Jim, that mirror probably came in handy during a spin, that way you could tell what's in front of you while going backwards !

Hi Marty. So is the key in the tach to reset the tale-tell? The Jones Motorola cable drive in the Willys was bought years before purchase of the car, just thought it was neat. It has a button for the reset. When I went to look at the car "TA DUH" moment, cable drive distributor, that tach had found it's home. Your pick up is killer, but what else would one expect. The F100, dreamy, look forward to the thread.

Johnny, your right, the key is the re-set. A friend had one on his 27 B/SR with a de-stroked Cammer, used to leave the line @10,000 and shift at 9 ! When he got back to the pits, he wouldn't re-set it for a while, just so the guys with the other brand engines could get a look. I am looking forward to Toutle in August, but I seem to move slower everyday.

It's the little details in the finishing stage that take time. I wanted a doubler on the tach, to make it rigid, and the oil pressure gauge needed a spacer on the backside to fill the gap. So, I did a little machine work tonight. IMG_9318.JPG IMG_9319.JPG IMG_9321.JPG IMG_9324.JPG IMG_9329.JPG IMG_9330.JPG IMG_9331.JPG

Hey Marty sorry to de rail your post but I must ask where in Oregon you would recommend getting a brass radiator made. I live in central Oregon and don’t mind a day trip to get the ball rolling but I figured you would know better than any. Thanks Tim

For some reason Ive missed your updates, this is killer Marty, exceptional fab work.

looking at the pics of your 40PU chassis, I saw the rear lower shock mounts on the 36 bones, is that welded on there? Is it a single tab? Ill be running 36 bones on my 40 Sedan, so this is of interest to me. Thanks

So was the tach manufactured with the key lock for the reset? If so what would be the purpose? Just find it interesting. That 10K leave and 9K shift wowza! Impressive. I get the slowing down thing too, somedays I kick the shops butt, somedays it kicks mine!

Hello Neil, yeah, it's a single tab, 3/8" thick, fully welded in place. I can take pictures of it finished. Here it is in the raw. IMG_8080.JPG IMG_8081.JPG

I got the rear wheels back from powdercoat, and the tires mounted. The next thing is to remove the lettering. I am happy with the offset, and stick out. IMG_9337.JPG IMG_9338.JPG IMG_9339.JPG

    The tires look great, Marty!
I don't know why Hoosier or anyone else would think that that is good advertising. Grind 'em!
