I found a 1929 A sedan, has a California pink, dated 1963 (the guy as owned the car for 50 years!) The strange thing is the ID number is not the typical Model A numbers--
It starts out --- DMV6xxxx-- like they gave it a assigned number in 1963
Has anybody seen anything like this on old CA pinks?
There is no motor and I have not lifted the cowl yet.

    Thanks
    Tom

  2. Just for the record, the frame is a stocker, right? Is there some kind of plate on the frame with the matching number, or does your guy know where it is? Did your guy buy it with the assigned VIN, or was he responsible for the change? If so, maybe he can give you the full story. And for the record, no, I didn't see any pinks with the particular sequence of numbers like you're talking about (and I saw a LOT), but I'm sure they changed their sequence since '63. My guess is that your guy bought the car without a title and the DMV and CHP weren't going to unbolt the body just to find a VIN, so they just assigned it a number. I'm not sure how they're doing it nowadays, but IF you can still read your original numbers (and if it's important to you), you might be able to fill out a few reams of assorted gubbimint forms and get the VIN changed back on your title, but...

The frame is a stocker, and the car, is only really a rusty roller frame with a four door cowl section. The fellow that owns it drove it in the 60's then parked it under a tree where it sits now. I'll see if I can pull the cowl and look for the numbers. I did not find any additional ID tag or anything. He does not want anything for the pile, and I was hoping that the pink would hold up at the DMV. But with that ID number not original Ford ??.The plates are supposed to be around someplace as well.
