I've considered a 292 in place of the 406 that's gettin a little tired. Wondering if a 700r4 would work since that's what I already have and physical limits make driving a stick difficult.

    Check out AD Chevy website.

  5. one thing to consider is the 194,230,250 all share the same engine mounts BUT the 292 has the engine mount on passenger side about 4" foward of these other engines and block is taller. great engine and 700r4 will bolt up just like sbc.

I guess I should mention that its going in a 54 210 2 door, not in a AD truck. The truck is an easy swap.

Look at this. 292, highly modified head with the lump technology used, 11 inch clutch and a T-5. runs strong and I'm not afraid to push it either. Strong engine and transmission.

  9. Did a 250 in a 50 Chevy Sedan. Easy install. Chassis engineering has the mounts. Part#CP-1108. Listed under 41-48 Chevy car (don't know why) Due to the motor being longer than the 235 I had to mount a electric fan in front of the radiator. You could move the radiator forward if you like. So are you saying that the mounts are staggered?

Thats a great question, just got the same treatment at the parts house while getting a master cylinder kit. They have managed to send a truck kit 3 times before getting it right.

Well I got the suggested chassis engineering kit and its not going to just bolt right in. The frame mounts dont clear the steering. I'm going to do some changing and see if I can make them work. I will keep this updated with what I decide to do. I decided to go with a 250 and a T5, so it shouldnt be to tough.

You can make a plate 1/4 or 5/16 thick to go behind the mount to move it where you need it. I had the same problem on a '39 Chevy.

I got the offset mount, the frame mount wont clear the steering. I am going to mod the mounts a bit to make them clear. I will post pics up when I do it.

I'm following your build as well, check out my build thread titled "my 54 chevy build begins"

Heres some pics of how I solved the steering clearance problem. The break down goes like this, cut apart as close to the bracket as I could, grind smooth, remove braces, grind smooth, tack in place level with bracket and eyeball it for center, weld-r-up, fit to frame and grind to fit properly, prime and paint.

Normbc9, I know this is a very old thread but was wanting to ask how well do you like the triple side draft webers? I have a chance to buy a set for my 292 but am concerned about keeping them sychronized and in tune. I had heard that they are can be very stable once set up properly but Im not sure if I could do it myself. If you could give me any input on their temperment and performance I would appreciate it. Thanks, Dongray

I know this is an old thread but the topic is exactly what I was searching. I have a 1950 chevy 3100, a 292 and an S-10 T5. The question is what is the best method to mate the two together? The 292 clutch plates are 11 inches dia. with 10 splines but the input shaft on the t5 is 14 splines. From everything I have read it appears that you could swap to a Jeep input shaft with 10 splines or use a clutch plate with 14 splines. There is a great website on how to switch out the input shaft, https://lugnutz65chevystepside.weebly.com/t5-info-page.html but it is a fair amount of work if one could simply switch out the clutch plate. Can someone tell me if I am missing something about the clutch plate switch and making it to simple? The clutch plate that supposedly would accomplish the task is 10.5 inch dia. and I dont know if that is an issue or not. link https://www.summitracing.com/tx/parts/add-716104/overview/

    Thank you,
    Dongray
