Converters create heat. Fluid friction. When GM put the lockup clutch inside the TQ the other componets had to be reduced in size. Like a small, hi-stall TQ, they create MORE heat. Thats why you like to have it in lock-up mode in whatever gear IF you're gonna stay in it very long. Sorta like learning to get off the clutch pedal as soon as possible.

Right I guess I need to try and figure the wiring the trans has at the moment and what it actually does and how it locks up. All new stuff for me...

See if you can find a how-to for wiring up the converter using a pressure switch in the transmission. I know it's not too difficult on a 700, but I don't know about the 200-4R...I haven't done one of them. The idea is to get it to engage the converter as it shifts into overdrive.

The GM transmissions have D-3-2-1 on the shift quadrant, and the computer or other "stuff" controls the lockup converter. It's not like some other makes of transmissions that have an OD switch.

Hi guys thanks for advice and tips, found a Painless wiring kit from Jegs that looks like it should do the trick, works on Vacuum and pressure to lock-up the converter whenit switches into overdrive.
